We turned a big corner with the last lesson. We climbed to the summit of the highest peak and had an interview with the giver of the greatest gifts. It is the life we were intended to have and what is more, we are invited back, anytime. Our real job, our responsibility is to simply keep at it all the time. Looking for anything else is going backwards.
The lessons are there for all who come with clean hands and a pure heart. It is not as hard as one might think, we do the best we can all the time and we are forgiven for the rest. And now we can understand how to use good advice. We have a whole new lifetime ahead, every day is an opportunity to learn and grow. And what is it we are to do?
37. Waiting on the Easy Path
Don’t worry about trouble makers and don’t waste your energy trying to make everything fair. The liars will be cut down soon enough and they will wither like mown grass in the sun. All you need is trust in the Lord, and do good works, in order to live and be fed. If you can learn to take delight in the Lord then you will be granted all the desires of your heart.
Commit your steps to his path, trust in Him and He will make it be. He will improve your strength and polish your judgement. Take your rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him. Don’t waste time or energy on those who seem to gain from the trouble they cause. Don’t get angry, and stay away from revenge; keep from doing evil at all times. The wicked will be cut off but those who wait for the Lord will inherit the earth.
In a little while the wicked won’t exist. You will try to think what it was like when they were around, but even the memory of them will be gone. The gentle will inherit the earth and will be delighted at the abundance of peace. The liars plot against justice and would tear up even natural law if they could, but the Lord laughs at them. He sees that their day is coming.
The wicked have armed themselves against the poor and needy to destroy anything that appears good and upright. Their methods will be their own undoing, their evil will break them. A little that a righteous man has is much better than great wealth in the hands of the wicked. The power of the wicked will be drained, but the Lord will fulfill the hopes of the righteous.
The Lord knows all the days of the upright and their inheritance shall be forever. They will not be ashamed when trouble comes, and when very little comes their way they will be satisfied. But the wicked will perish and the enemies of the Lord will be like incense, they will be consumed and pass away as smoke.
The wicked borrow and do not pay back, but the righteous give and do not ask for anything in return. Those who bless the Lord shall inherit the earth while those who curse Him shall be cut off. The steps of the good man are ordered by the Lord and he delights in the path. Though he my stumble, he will not fall; for the hand of the Lord will hold him up.
I have gone from youth to old age and have never seen the righteous forsaken nor his offspring begging bread. He shows mercy and gives, his family is blessed. Depart from evil, do good and you will live forever. The Lord loves justice and does not forsake his saints, they are preserved forever; but the seed of the wicked shall not grow. The righteous will inherit the land and live there forever. His mouth speaks wisdom and his tongue talks of justice. The law of the Lord is in his heart and he will not slip from the path.
The wicked watch the righteous man and try to destroy him, but the Lord will not leave him in trouble or condemn him by their law. Wait on the Lord and keep his way, He will lift you up to inherit the land. When the wicked are cut off the righteous will see it. I have seen the wicked with great power, spreading influence like a huge tree, but then pass away as if they never were. I even looked but could find nothing.
Observe the man who strives for perfection, and learn from the upright; the end of that man is peace. But the law breakers shall all be destroyed, the end of the wicked is oblivion. The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord, He is their strength in times of trouble. The Lord shall help them; He will deliver them from the wicked and save them, because they trust in Him.
Here is given the understanding of a lifetime of living on the path. The little that a righteous man has is better than great wealth in the hands of the wicked. Look carefully at yourself and determine what it is that you really want and what you are doing to get it. This path through the Psalms is for those who would have eternal life in the city of God. The trials of this earth are lessons, they are stepping stones through the real trouble that would sweep us off our feet.
All that we have and all we shall ever have is a gift. We did not make ourselves and we did not make this moment; they are gifts for us to use however we wish. Everything that happens in our lives is there to help us grow, to improve our strength and polish our judgement. Don’t get angry, get patience and the Lord will see you and his strength will grow in you.
The lesson here is that the Lord really sees us and loves us and works with us every day. Those who praise Him will inherit the earth while those who curse Him will be cut off and perish. We learn to praise Him in all that we think and feel and do because there is no value in doing anything else. If your child asked you for a piece of bread would you give her a snake? If you ask your Father in Heaven for truth will He give you temptation? We are tempted by our own desires but we are shown the truth by what happens to us. Instead of wondering why bad things happen, wonder how to learn from what the Teacher is trying to show you.
Observe the man who strives for perfection: observe yourself and what you strive for. You will see what you need to do, there is nothing new here. The hard part is to remember to do it. Imagine yourself in front of a two-way mirror looking into another room but also seeing yourself at the same time. Pay attention to how you act and how you react. See yourself as others see you instead of how you imagine yourself to be.
Though we may stumble, we shall not fall for the hand of the Lord will hold us up. Our steps are ordered by Him and we shall find delight in his path.
