We were raised there in that town
in the center of the world
Called “Small town USA”.
At grandmas house was where
The neighborhood children came to play
Free from care
Free from peer
A friendly meal always waited inside
The distance from the back yard
To the back kitchen door
Was all it took
To find love in Grandmas
Little corner of the world
We called it, “Grandmas little Nook”!
When all was played and done
Inside that house where Grandma lived
We found some fried potatoes and pinto beans
With a hunk of corn bread on the side
For dessert there were fried apple pies.
Kool-aid was the drink of the day
What flavor? Did not matter
Nourishment and love
Was all we needed
From the body to the soul
As upwardly we go
Citizens of a better day
In Small Town USA
