How good were the “good ole days?” We often not only look at our surrounding world through rose colored glasses, but also the past as well. Most of us have gotten pretty well accustomed to the benefits of life today; and with close examination most would decide against a return to the good ole days.
Why do we speak so fondly of yesterday? I believe it is because we do desire the simpler life, want to be freed of the stress of the rat race. We forget that those before us also yearned for the good ole days; so it is not really a certain time period, but more of an attitude. Our children in a few years will be referring to our present time as the good ole days!
Even those in Bible days dealt with this frame of mind, “Do not say, Why is it that the former days were better than these? For it is not from wisdom that you ask about this,(Ecclesiastes 7:10 NAS).”
We can not purchase a return trip ticket! Soon these will be the good ole days!

A very good thought provoking article and so true. I have seen and experienced very good and very bad times in my lifetime and I still go back in memory and enjoy childhood memories, ie, laying on the grass in the front yard with my brother and looking at the moon and stars and just talking. Or sitting outside after a long, hot summer day and enjoying the cool evening breeze. The time has passed but the memory lingers on. GOD BLESS YOU
Thank you for your faithfulness in writing devotionals. I am always encouraged.
I am persuaded that I consider everything in life as incomplete til I have finished my course, got my promised crown and have my body raised after our LORD Jesus' glorious body in Heaven! Eternity is at hand.
Jer. 6:16 "Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls."
As pilgrims in this narrow path to Life, Jesus is our Way. May we choose to seek after "the old paths"(the good way)for proper directions from God's written Word...and we shall find rest for our souls.
Your devotionals help me think! God bless you.
I believe you are right in saying it is the attitude of returning to a simpler life. Getting away from the rat race, leading a quiet and peaceable life, and storing more treasure in heaven than on earth are on my heart these days. I know I don't want yesterday; there was much pain there.
