Christian Living
You have probably heard people say that God is always with you. That’s hard concept to understand, isn’t it? But it should be a comforting one - you are secure in God’s abiding presence because He is eternal , and is eternally present in your life. Because God is eternal, He has been there since the beginning of your life and will be there to see it through to the end - a promise of His love , guidance and protection that no one else can make ! Isn’t it a joy to know that you can rely on Him to be there , a guiding force and comfort no matter what, for as long as you live and into the eternal?
Sometimes He may seem far away, perhaps because you are going through a difficult time or because you’ve been too busy to go to church for a few Sundays or because you’ve felt too unhappy to pray properly. That’s okay, because even when you feel like God’s face is hidden from you, He is still watching over you. You aren’t hidden from Him ! Even when the sun is hidden by the clouds, it is still there, keeping the earth in its orbit.
God is never far away, even when you don’t feel close to Him because you are upset or feel sorrow - because God isn’t in a far away Heaven in the clouds. God’s Spirit is within you and accompanies you everywhere you go. St. Patrick wrote a hymn that went,
“Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort me and restore me,
Christ beneath me, Christ above me.”
St. Patrick understood that God’s Spirit permeates our souls and wasn’t a distant, impersonal presence far away from us. There is strength that comes from knowing that God’s spirit is within you and accompanies you everywhere you go.
Remind yourself that God will never leave you and you will have the courage to face anything. God’s presence isn’t conditional - it isn’t based on how good we are or whether we’ve gone to church or whether we’ve done something really wrong this month. God is simply always there, always loving us, always waiting for us to reach out to Him, ready to catch us when we fall.
Every morning before you start your day, say the following prayer for protection by James Dillet Freeman:
“The light of God surrounds me;
The love of God enfolds me;
The power of God protects me;
The presence of God watches over me.
Wherever I am , God is !”
God is your ever-present help through it all. Where you are, God is and all is well.
“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will help you. I will uphold you with my victorious right hand”.
- Isaiah 41:10 NLT
God never abandons you because He is within you. He doesn’t promise to be with you if you do this or that, He doesn’t tell you when He will be with you. He simply says, “I am with you.” And that is everything you will ever need !
