We Must Discern the Times

Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:Romans 1:31

When looking at a nation's leaders who no longer recognize the real God, but would rather us celebrate some multi-cultural god, one of the outcomes is lack of understanding or discernment.

Without discernment, a nation loses its way. It becomes blind to what is happening around them. They don't see the signs. Slowly, evil leaders, like a frog in a boiling pot, will do what they can to remove freedoms and extract money from its people. In the end, the nation that shed blood so many times to protect its liberty from dictators, will become enslaved by the same.

Every democracy started with a yearning for freedom and in the end, became enslaved, because they lost discernment and the will to fight for their freedoms. They became fat, because they realized how much they could get from their government's money supply. And in the end they broke their government and a dictator rose from the ashes.

Isaiah speaks about this very thing in chapter 29. He writes: Stay yourselves, and wonder; cry ye out, and cry: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink. For the LORD hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered (Isa. 29:9-10).

God's Word makes it clear, when a nation turns from Him, the seers and the prophets lose discernment. The watchmen lose their ability to see the signs. And even if they see them, there will be more who do not and those who do not will be enough, in the flesh, to keep those who do from making any impact. Because those who eat from the government's trough will outnumber those who do not.

So what is left? Prayer. We must pray. We must cry out to the Lord. Yet, what I fear the most is this, will God tell us, as He said to Jeremiah, "Quit praying for this people!"

What are the times? What are we to see? I believe we are in the last days of this nation and of this world. America was and is the last bastion of true freedom. It is the nation that has answered the call to free other oppressed nations around the world. Unfortunately, most democracies never see their three-hundredth birthday. Without a free America, an America that loves God and is able to discern the times, what q=will happen to the rest of the world? All one has to do is read Revelation to see what happens.

Yes, this nation must come down and our Constitution, which most no longer pay any attention to anyway, must be done away with. I can already see the steps that will be taken to do this and there are many others who see the same thing.

I am not speaking of politics here. I am speaking about what I believe will take place that allows this world to become a One World Government. America cannot remain free. It can no longer fight other nations to protect its freedom. It will, I believe, give itself over to the world. First with treaties, then with Supreme Court rulings that recognize world laws, rather than our own Constitution. And finally, a full takeover, where freedom and liberty will no longer exist and the will to fight and protect will fade away.

Doom and Gloom. Yes, possibly. But I do not believe so. It's happened to every democracy. And the seeds are now planted to do the same here.

Our only answer is prayer and the belief that God will sustain us and allow His church to grow. It always has when persecuted. And that will be next. I see most true churches going underground, within the next few years, as laws will be passed that will politicize the Word of God and make parts of it illegal. There may even be a call to excise certain passages from the Word.

I also see government moving in and controlling churches, where they will need to register with the state and they will have to agree to certain terms to maintain their non-profit status. This will become a battleground. It will be the hammer the state will hold over the church.

Finally, as it always happens, Christianity will become enemies of the state.

Discerning the times. How do I know these may come true? I look to history. I look to God's Word. And I know He does not change. And I know His Word is true. And we must remember, God controls the nations. He controls their rising and He controls their falling. If we know this, then we can read His Word and discern the times. The clues are all around us.

So, do we retreat in fear? No. Do we shutter in a dark corner somewhere? No. Instead we pray, repent, and know these times will be exciting. Jesus said when you see these times, look up for our redemption is near. We are to hold on to Jesus. We are to lift Him up. We are to praise Him and seek Him for guidance. We are to live to serve and in the end, He promises we will never have to beg for bread. In the end, He will supply the needs of His people.

Does this mean we will avoid persecution. Absolutely not. We will. But we know where we are going. We have a hope in the eternity. And besides, when times get bad, eternity looks better and better.

Take heed. These times are like no other in our history. When our nation's leader declared, last week that we are not a Christian nation, I believe the end-time clock began to tick. And those who know the Lord and see the times will rejoice, because their redemption is near.
