Stretched like frayed elastic
Pulled this way and that.
Listening, helping, serving,
A smile, an ear, a chat.
Feeling worn and frazzled,
The weight seems great to bear.
Crumpled up and hassled
With ‘energy-less’ care.
I steal away to stillness
And quietly shut the door.
I listen to my Saviour
Say ‘Come to me’ once more.
Stretched – to serve Him wholly,
Strengthened – with His power.
Know His grace sufficient,
For every need, each hour.
Oh my Lord I love you
You bore my heavy load
Stretched cruelly on that awful cross
What stretching love you showed.
Thank you for your cleansing
From sin and guilt and dread
Thanks for stretching strengthening
To face all that lies ahead.
