4/5/09 Pastor Alex's sermon: Love God and Love People!!
Matthew 22: 37-40 John 15:12-13 Romans 8:35-39
I Corinthians 13:4-8
Love hurts and makes us vulnerable. We have to trust someone and its Risky Business.

I. Love Is the Key to Successful Christian Living:

We know that God is real and we want to grow in our relationship with Christ. We need to love God first and then we can love others easily.
Most of us have had a tough time with the idea of love. We've had a distorted view of love and been hurt by: divorce, broken family childhood, got pregnant and dumped by boyfriend etc etc.
Life is hard and love is hard too.
BUT.......we have to choose to love again. Go to God with all our heart and soul and LOVE GOD!! We have to choose to love again.
GOD IS LOVE!! AND.....Hell is the absence of Love.

II. God Has a Pathway of Progression to Grow in Love:

God IS holy and He has a holiness. God CANNOT sin!! He will NEVER hurt us!! We CAN trust God!! As we walk with God, we learn how to love and he gets rid of that distorted view of love that we have.
God says for us to love our neighbor. We have to learn to love ourselves FIRST so then we can love others. Sometimes its hard for us to love ourselves. We need to have conficence that God will forgive us of our sins and that God DOES love us. The Word says for us to forget that which is behind us and to press forward toward the future. This future is our being in love and being loved by God. God will teach us how to love people, even the un-lovable. Before WE came to Christ, we were one of the un-lovable folk too. Jesus paid the price for us and loves us.

John 15-12-13 Greater Love.... we need to love others and spread the gospel. We need to try to bring people to church with us and show them the love of God.

Romans 8:35-39 Nothing can seperate us from the love of God. When God created the world, He had us in mind for Him to create so He could love us. We can all learn how to love more like God. We need to be a light of God's love. When we go to the grocery store (ridiculous high prices), the gas station and the laundry, we need to show the love in us that comes from God.

God's Love is BIG and HIGHER and DEEPER than all. There is no wound that is too deep that God cannot penetrate and heal us of that hurt. God can heal all and give us this love.
I Corinthians 13:4-8 is the Love chapter that shows how love never fails. GOD LOVES US!!
WE ARE COVERED IN HIS LOVE!! THE LORD'S LOVE IS ALL!!

Amen
