Faith
A small boy and his father were walking and they came upon an old wooden bridge. As they arrived at the beginning of the bridge the boy's eyes filled with fear of crossing, because under the bridge was a swift and roaring rapids of water. The boy's father sensed his fear, but knew the bridge was suitable to cross safely because he had crossed it many times, and he himself was the builder of that bridge.
As they were about to take their first steps onto the bridge, the father said, “Son, hold my hand”.
The boy replied, “No daddy, YOU hold MY hand”.
The father wasn’t about to argue his son’s simple request but could help but ask, “Ok, I will... but what difference does it make son?”
The boy then said, “If I hold your hand, I might let go if I get scared. But if you hold my hand, I know you will NEVER let go of mine”.
TRUST: Assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something.
This is a simple story that illustrates a relationship that is very strong in the “trust department”. The boy’s father knew that everything would be ok, and knew that he and his son would both make it across safely, just as God knows that everything will be ok if we put our trust in him, because he created the entire universe. If we only would reach out in trust and hold his hand, we too would know that we will be ok through all of life’s challenges. Trust is an essential component of a relationship. To have a personal relationship with your creator and savior, you MUST trust him and ask him to hold your hand.
But the problem is, we let go of his had far too often. When we go to events like church, bible studies, and Christian music concerts, we get a spiritual boost. We can become “on fire” for God. We are holding his hand. But the week goes on, we look over the edge of the old wooden bridge and down below are life’s challenges and temptations taunting us. We tend to take matters into our own hands. We get angry, we get try to get even, or we simply just worry—We let go of God’s hand. Sometimes we even put our trust in ourselves or other things such as our popularity, drugs, alcohol, or our worldly possestions. By taking action yourself, putting your trust in something other than God, or by worrying, it’s like telling God, “I don’t trust that you can get me through this. I’ll do it myself. I don’t need you God”. God wants us to rely on him, run to him, take refuge in him, and let him carry our burdens—He wants us to hold his hand.
What we need to do is ask God to hold our hand. We can always try to hold his, but when we ask him into our lives, we ask him to hold our hand because we know that no matter how many times we try to let go, He will never let go of us.
Take Job from the bible for an example. God allowed satan to take everything from Job-- his children, wife, animals; pretty much everything Job had. Now how do your life challenges compare to Job's? Despite all of this, Job trusted God. He could have turned his back on God for allowing that to happen to him, but God was holding his hand, and he was holding God's all the way. I believe God allowed that situation to happen so that it can serve as an extreme example to us.
No matter what happens, God will hold our hand through it if we ask him (James 4:8 "Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded."). No matter how many times we let go of his hand, he will ALWAYS hold ours (Lamentations 3:22 "Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.")
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Truthfully and beautifully written. Except if I were the boy, I would ask Daddy (Jesus) to carry me instead of holding my hands because I like to be pampered by Him.
