I believe children today have seen so much of reality that little is left to their imagination! Also it takes a major graphic demonstration to interest them. Everything on television, in movies and in their electronic games is so vivid and detailed. My generation lived in a TV generation of black and white programming; we were easier to impress!
I remember quite a few old commercial slogans. That is proof of their effectiveness; it’s sure not because I have a good memory! Colgate toothpaste had a commercial about the benefits of brushing with their product to prevent tooth decay. The claim implied the paste applied to tooth enamel served as a shield against cavities. All of that was not very interesting to a child. Then the spokesman walked toward the camera and tapped on glass between him and the camera. It was an invisible shield! I did not know it was there until his tapping revealed it.
As Gods’ children we have a shield of protection, too. “in addition to all taking up the shield of faith, with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming missiles of the evil one (Ephesians 6:16 NAS).” When we believe the shield is there, we see it by faith!
