When wisdom knocks what will you do?
Will you take offense -- and
Declare no one available
To receive this recompense?
Will you doubt yourself
Because wisdom had to call?
Although uninvited
To save you from a fall.
Will you fail to see the blessing
That this urgent message hails?
To either stir or hinder you
God’s message must prevail.
Could be you need to hurry up
Could be you need to slow down
God’s messenger of wisdom
On him you must not frown.
Behind every dark cloud
Are treasures of darkness
Revealed in the secret place
Of wisdom warning and beckoning us
To hasten into this place.
So do not frown or take offense
Let wisdom have her way
When she comes knocking
Ask yourself, “Is this my wisdom call?
Am I about to fall?
Should I hurry up?
Should I slow down?”
Then take a moment
To seek the knowledge found
That unveils the hidden treasures
That captures the sublime
The wisdom of the ages
Discoveries of our time.
Ask wisdom in to stay a while
Then partake of its wealth
The substance of its health
Behold its dark treasures
That reveal only light
Embrace it with joy
Don’t let it take flight.
Sometimes we don’t recognize
Wisdom’s disguise
It might be chastisement
Lest oft criticized.
Don’t let that derail you
From seeking its purpose
To teach you the lessons
Just under the surface.
That you might not see
Or just trample over
Lest God send you wisdom
To chide and uncover.
The pearls to enhance
Our daily substance
Of blessings and mercy
Revealed in an instance
Only through wisdom’s persistence.
