What is this color that you speak so lowly of?
After 200 years it’s still a topic of conversation
Instead of the insignificant detail of life that it truly is
Like the curl of your hair
Or the tint of the eye
What is this color that you speak so highly of?
After all this time it’s still an item for consideration
Instead of the mute point that it really is
Like the mole on your chin
And the hair on your arm
What is this color that you speak so angrily of?
After all the lessons of the past it’s still misused as an accelerant
Instead of silent like the simple DNA decision that it is
Like the curve of your butt
Or the slant of your nose
You don’t hate the color of my eyes
Or the hair on my arm
How can you possibly elevate my skin above
my curls and my moles and my butt
They are all equal
We
Are all equal
What is this?
Color
