To be “Merciful” means to be kind, lenient, forgiving, benignant, tender and sympathetic. Bible declares that God’s mercy is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him; His mercy is great above the heavens; It’s His mercy that we are not consumed for they are new every morning for us; It’s His mercy that encourages us to penitence; In forgiving our sins and makes our Salvation possible.
The cross of Christ reminds us that as He has shown His leniency and compassion towards us by forgiving our offences and transgression so we must also bear the quality of being merciful to our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus as well as with the unsaved and lost souls out there in the world. Being the Disciples of Christ Jesus we have been asked to be the imitators of God and has been commanded to bind mercy about our necks and write it on the table of our heart for a merciful man does good to his own soul. Through the parable of “Rich man and Lazarus” Christ has revealed unto us the dire consequences of being un-merciful.
It’s imperative for us as Disciples of Christ Jesus to be merciful by loving one another and our enemies; by praying for those who persecutes us; by blessing those who curses us; by forgiving others their sins; by over coming evil by doing good; by tarrying each others burden; by providing for the widows, orphans and poor, by supplying temporal wants of others; by leaving in peace with everyone, preserving unity; by showing generosity, tolerance and restraint from harming others, by sacrificing one’s own self-centered motives and desires, denying self; In considering others better then our selves; by being patient with those who have doubts and are timid, weak in faith – For once we were also lost but are been saved and reconciled because of the mercies of God that He has bestowed upon us through the sacrifice of His Son, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Christ has prophetically promised mercy shown to those who are merciful, which not only covers our earthly life but also the life eternal. During their earthly life the Lord blesses merciful people by His love, joy, peace, protection, provision, righteousness, forgiveness, healing, deliverance, restoration, counsel, knowledge, wisdom while in the life eternal Christ will bless the merciful people by giving them the mansions that the Father in the heaven has prepared for them, by making them royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own; give water free of charge from the spring of the water of life; will wipe away every tear from their eyes; will worship God, and they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. Night will be no more, and they will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, because the Lord God will shine on them, and they will reign forever and ever.
Beloved ones remember Christ has commanded us to be merciful and have revealed unto us to be perfect, as our heavenly Father is perfect. God has been merciful to us because, “so that in us the shoddier sinners, Christ Jesus could demonstrate his utmost patience, as an example for those who are going to believe in him for eternal life.
Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with a heart of mercy and Let the peace of Christ be in control in your heart, and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and exhorting one another with all wisdom, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, all with grace in your hearts to God. And whatever you do in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
May God bless each one of us to remember His tender mercies that are new for each day for us and help us to be merciful to others for it’s the mercy and not the sacrifice that the Lord requires from us, for mercy triumphs over judgment.
Grace be with all of those who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.
Eternally Christ's,
Joshua-Ashish Macwan
