By speaking of “Hunger and Thirst” Christ has put emphasis on “Spiritual Desire” in a Christian’s life. Today we enjoy the free gift of Salvation because we are ransomed by our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ through His precious blood as result of Christ’s hunger and thirst to abide in the will of God even at the cost of His life that He has laid down for us in order to bless us with Ever-Lasting life.
The success of the Christ’ s earthly ministry was due to His humble reverence and obedience in doing the will of God that resulted to bring glory, honor and praise to the Father in the heaven and thereby reveal the righteousness of God. Every sermon, every healing ministry, every deliverance, every sign, wonders and miracles that Christ did was not because He was the Son of Most High God, yes He was but it was due to His humble reverence and obedience; it was because Christ’s everlasting hunger and thirst to do the will of God; He preached, practiced and fulfilled God’s word and His commandment; He always sought the face of the Lord Almighty; He always waited upon the Lord- for God’s time and season’s; He always denied himself and made Father’s will supreme in his life; He always remembered His vision, mission and looked upon the Father in the heaven as His provision; He fully entrusted himself in the hands of God and when Christ did so the Divine plan of Salvation of God Almighty for we humans was fulfilled and His righteousness was established as His Word and promise concerning Messiah and Saviour which He had given to the patriarchs, prophets and his servant’s in the Old Testament got fulfilled in and through His Son Jesus Christ.
Christ himself has laid an example for us to follow in how to hunger and thirst for righteousness and He himself has put prominence and key to blessings as He preached in Matthew 6 and verse 33, “But above all pursue his kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Christ knew that in order to do the will of God and abide in His plan and purposes the Third person of Trinity – The Holy Spirit is of great importance and therefore Christ promised to His disciples to sent unto them, “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you forever- the Spirit of truth- the Holy Spirit”. Yes, the Spirit of Most High God rested upon Christ Jesus ever since He was baptized by John the Baptist in the river of Jordan and ever since then Christ was ministered by the Spirit of God who guided, governed and counseled him and helped him in doing the will of God and thereby revealing God’s righteousness.
How often we have witnessed Christians being not zealous and joyous in their new life in Christ Jesus, because the Christians have failed to understand that the new-life that they have gained by the grace and faith in Christ Jesus requires the Holy Spirit of God- “The Counsellor & Comforter” to guide, govern and counsel every day and areas of Christian life, for the Bible says, “If we live by the Spirit, let us also behave in accordance with the Spirit.” For the Spirit helps us to abide in the will of God and through the Spirit God helps us to keep His commandments.
One can only hunger and thirst for righteousness only when we are born again in Christ Jesus and humbly, willfully and obediently allow and accept the Holy Spirit of God to govern, counsel and guide our lives in order to help us make useful instruments in the hands of the Lord Almighty and use us for His Holy and Glorious Kingdom.
To Hunger and Thirst for righteousness means to completely give ourselves, surrender in the hands of the Lord Almighty; to lay aside our fleshly desires, notions, emotions, reasoning power and walk the faith life governed by the Spirit of God; always ready to cry out before the Lord, “ Not my will but thy will be done”
“Spiritual fullness” in the form of Overflowing cup, blessings, joy, wisdom, protection, Spirit and God in our earthly life as well as Heavenly life is promised by Christ who always hunger and thirst for righteousness. Let us all follow the footsteps of Christ whom we profess to be the Lord of our lives and allow Holy Spirit to guide, govern and counsel our Christian lives so that we can do and abide in the will of God and thereby reveal the righteousness of God.
Let us not be the hearers of the word of God but also be the doers of the word of God for then we shall become like wise men who built his house on the rock who sustained when rain, flood and storm beat against it- For Christ has also forewarned that, ““Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of heaven – only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.
May God help each one of us to become like “Faithful Servant” and we enter in His glory we will be blessed to hear these words, “‘Well done, good and faithful slave! You have been faithful in a few things. I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master.’
Eternally Christ's,
Joshua-Ashish Macwan
