The bird nests are for rent,
The chirping birds are gone!
They’ve taken leave of the North,
Flying to the balmy Southern sun!
The leaves are floating aimlessly;
Swirling around the lawn.
It is a sharp reminder
That the beauty of fall is gone!
The farmers are working feverishly
To store grain, and till the soil;
Looking forward to lazy days of winter,
When there shall be less toil.
Each season has its purpose;
From spring ‘til the chilling snows.
We are reminded once again,
This is the way life goes.
In the spring of our lives there’s
Anticipation, of the things to come;
With vibrant strength and beauty,
Of a life that’s just begun.
In the summer of our lives,
We focus on more reality;
As we labor to raise our families,
And accept the things that be.
Then, fall slips up upon us,
Our children have their own home.
Just like the birds in the fall,
They’ve left their nest, and flown.
Next, winter comes in a flurry;
Snowy white, is in the hair;
And many are the aches and pains
Which we are found to bear.
We look beyond the winter
To the rest that lies ahead;
When our Savior calls us home;
Where it’s spring, and no more dread!
With joy, we will be greeted,
By our Sustainer, and our light
In the Land of glorious beauty
Where there’ll never be a dark night!
With joy, we’ll walk the golden streets,
Holding Jesus’ nail-scarred hand.
We’ll rejoice in completing the cycle,
Just as our Savior has planned!
