Last week I wrote about 'Life's Greatest Gift is God's Love'...
this week I'd like to share about 'God's Great Gift of Prayer'.
~A big part of God's love is the gift of Prayer.
~Satan fights us hardest at the point of Prayer.
~When we Pray, we get what God can do...when we don't Pray we get what WE can do.
~Many people worry a lot, but Prayer beats worry by a whole lot.
The Bible says, "Cast all your cares on God for He cares for you".
When we arrived as missionaries to Korea in 1960, there was still much destruction from the Korean War and some necessities were hard to find.
We lived on the Language Compound near Yon Sei University with other missionaries. Our home was a new duplex that did not have curtains, so La Moyne was trying to figure out what we could use for both rods as well as the curtains.
Several of the missionary ladies had gathered for prayer one morning and La Moyne
shared with them that she was having difficulty finding something that would work
and asked for prayer concerning it.
One lady said, "I can't believe that you asked for prayer for something as minor as that!"
La Moyne told her that she had been raised to believe that nothing was too big for God, nor was anything too small to talk with Him about.
La Moyne's parents taught her that if something was of concern to her, then God cared about it also. It may be a 'simple faith' but it was/is how she believes.
Another situation occurred just yesterday as La Moyne misplaced her glasses!!
Since she needs a new prescription, she has to take her glasses off while working at the computer. Her glasses were nowhere to be found.....from about 10 p.m. yesterday until 10 this a.m.
She has worn glasses since she was 7 yrs. of age, so this was no minor issue!!
We prayed and asked our family to be praying also....and God answered....
because He cares!
Consider the futility of worry in these statements:
~Worry is like a rocking chair...it gives you something to do, but gets you nowhere.
~Worry is interest paid on trouble before it becomes due.
~Worry empties today of it's strength, not it's troubles.
~Worry often gives a small thing a big shadow.
~Worry never changes a single thing...except him/her who worries!
Worry ends where faith begins!
If we trust, we do not worry. If we worry, we just don't trust.
Why worry? Why not trust God and let Him help bear the weight?
Many have said, "Pray as if everything depends upon God....
but work as if everything depends on you."
Be sure that you remember Who is Boss.
God says 'Come' over 1900 times in the Bible.....
thus fellowship with Him and Prayer must be important.
~Prayer shown: Confidence in God (Heb. 4:14-16)
~Prayer is a call...and a reply is expected (II Thes. 7:14)
~Prayer is a command (Luke 18:1)
~Prayer is to be a continual part of life (I Thes. 5:17)
(The ATTITUDE of prayer produces ATMOSPHERE....which produces ACTION)
~Prayer is a cry of compassion (Ps. 126:5-6)
~Prayer is a cry of commitment like David in Ps. 51
Thoughts from here and there:
~"If you are hanging by a thread, tie a Prayer Knot....
hang on...and you will find the hem of His garment."
(After I finished writing this yesterday, we rec'd a card from a friend and this very same statement was in her card....an underlining from God)
~ We make Prayer long and difficult when it can be short and meaningful.
~Make a Prayer list....don't trust your memory!
Keep it by your bed and Pray before you sleep. God works while you're sleeping!~
~As you are going, Pray! (Attitude produces Action)
~Use the Internet and 'snail mail' for Prayer ministries.
The greatest thing you may say to someone is "I'm Praying for you"....
but make sure that you DO!
The following was in a greeting card we received:
No ocean can hold it back...
No river can overtake it...
No army can defeat it...
No law can stop it...
No distance can slow it...
No disease can cripple it...
No force on earth is more powerful nor effective than the Power of Prayer.
It's no wonder that satan fights us hardest at the point of Prayer....
but God is pleased when we DO Pray!
Prayer brings God's love and life to you...and through you...to others!
La Moyne's paternal Gr'mother gave birth to 9 baby boys and a baby girl who died at birth.
Four boys died very young, then two died as young men, leaving only La Moyne's Dad and two brothers to live full lives.
Though Gr'mother Harris experienced many tragedies, she had a sweet disposition, always singing hymns as well as having a keen sense of humor!
Only her PRAYER life and a close walk with her Lord, could've made that possible.
This was a song we heard her sing (hum) many times.
'SWEET HOUR OF PRAYER'
Words: William Walford (1772-1850)
Music: William B. Bradbury (1816-1868)
Sweet hour of Prayer, sweet hour of Prayer
that calls me from a world of care,
and bids me at my Father's throne
make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
my soul has often found relief,
and oft escaped the tempter's snare
by thy return, sweet hour of Prayer.
Sweet hour of Prayer, sweet hour of Prayer~
thy wings shall my petition bear
to Him whose truth and faithfulness
engage the waiting soul to bless.
And since He bids me seek His face,
believe His word, and trust His grace,
I'll cast on Him my every care,
and wait for thee, sweet hour of Prayer.

Dear Bro. Travis and La Moyne, First, THANK YOU so much for your gift. It blessed me all the way to work this morning - and on the way home too! And thanks for continuing to share your love for Jesus in your writings here on this website. I love this quote: ~"If you are hanging by a thread, tie a Prayer Knot.... hang on...and you will find the hem of His garment." You both have been an inspiration to me. May God continue to bless. In Christ's Love, Julia
