This band's name isn't for a town located in Texas like one might think at first look; instead it stands for its Latin meaning, 'Body of Christ.' The band in facts hails from the Christian music hotbed of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Corpus Christi's lineup is, Will Henry (vocals), Jarrod Christman (guitar, vocals), Jon Pauly (guitar), Phil Smith (bass), and Justin Evans (drums).
The Darker Shades of White is the band's debut release on Victory Records. Although the band did release an Independent EP in 2007 titled, It's Always Darkest Before the Dawn.
Corpus Christi's music is a mixture of both hard driving metalcore and melodic metal. The songs found on this release are filled with thick guitars and unbelievable drum parts. The drum work found on this release is some of the fastest and best I've ever heard. Band drummer Justin Evans must have bionic arms to be able to pound his drum set so fast and hard for so long.
Also impressive is the band's dual vocal attack with Will Henry handling the hard edge screamo parts while Jarrod Christman takes care of the melodic singing ones. Each word from both singers is dripping with passion as they leave their mouths. The vocals transition from screamo to lyrical are seamless, never missing a beat.
Theme wise the songs found on this release offer up hope to people in a real way, not sugar coating things. Life can be really tough sometimes, and requires sacrifices being made, if you're willing though to keep living for the Lord, in the end, things are going to workout.
This band holds nothing back, putting everything they have into each song found on The Darker Shades of White. The band's live shows must be unbelievable.
If you're a fan of bands like, As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage, All That Remains, From Autumn to Ashes, and August Burns Red then you should also find Corpus Christi's music to your liking.
With bands like Corpus Christi on the frontline of the spiritual war, I have hope for the future of this world!
