I have definitely never been the smartest,
In nothing have I ever been the “best,”
Actually, it seems as though I always fail,
No matter the situation or test,
I am not a profound teacher,
And by no means an eloquent speaker,
Never been a mighty leader,
But like Gideon see myself as the weaker,
I feel that I have nothing to offer you,
Such a miniscule amount can I give,
No talent, no special calling,
Just in modest mediocrity do I live,
How can You ever use such a nobody?
Someone who is always pushed aside in the crowd,
A person very undeserving, contrite, and broken,
With a heavy heart pierced with hurts left unspoken,
Could You ever use this vessel so ordinary,
To be used as a servant extraordinary,
Could You ever use a person like me,
As a lighthouse, so the many that are lost may now see,
As a witness to those who are hurting, and they who are bound can be set free?
I am not a preacher or prophet, but a mere humble servant,
One with sincerity of heart and prayers ever fervent,
A vessel willing to be used for Your service,
To be an instrument utilized to fulfill Your purpose,
Could You, would You, will You ever use someone like me?
For being pleasing unto You, Dear Lord, is all I’ve ever wanted to be.
