Tempers flared. Sounds of anger filled the air. The meeting threatened to spin out of control.
Bel: "This is preposterous. It is insane! I ask, are we blind? Have we no sense of wisdom? This is not the time to talk of conquest."
A chorus of voices sounded in agreement. "I tell you, old Moshe has got it all wrong this time!"
Hev:"You should have listened to me from the beginning. I told you not to listen to him in the first place. See where he has led us now! This, all knowing Moshe with his nationalistic ideas, and visions of grandeur!"
Caleb shook his head. He was tired and looking beaten. The criticism against him had taken its toll. Yet, he would try once more to convince his brethren.
"Gentlemen! Please listen to me. The truth is that....."
Bel: “The truth, the truth! What is true? I tell you what is true," he shouted. "The truth is that we have gone on an absurd journey, through a hot, unrelenting desert, bandits and robbers at our heels, snakes everywhere and food, food that turns to worms. That's the truth, and if you can't see it, then God help us all!"
'Heare, Heare!" The shouts rang through the air, and the debate raged on all that day.
Moshe left the vicinity. He gazed into the sky. His eyes leveled as he stared into the distance. The Promised Land! He pondered over the situation at hand. The government was in crisis. Thousands had marched in violent protest, as rebellious leaders agitated for political change. There was talk of military intervention. He might have to invoke emergency powers.
He turned to face his favourite General, who stood silently at his side. "What do you think?" he asked.
Yehoshua hesitated. "Well, there's certainly a point to be made. There are giants in the land and the cities are well fortified. From a purely humanistic point of view, we do not stand a chance. They will 'cream us,' if we attack them.”
Moshe: "The Lord has given us the Land!"
Yehoshua: "Yes, I know! Thank God we do not have to rely on our human abilities alone. All said and done, I choose to believe God. He has given us the Land. Canaan is ours. We can defeat them!"
Moshe: "Well said, Yehoshua. GOD'S WORD is THE TRUTH!"
