Here you read that John is showing us how to discern between those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God and those who do not believe and yet profess it. By simply saying that anyone who does not believe that Jesus is the Christ (Christ=Son of God, Savior of the world, the true messiah), has the spirit of antichrist! You may say; but it says that "anyone who does not believe that Jesus Christ came in the flesh, is antichrist". True! Let us note: Christ is not Jesus' last name. Christ is who he is! That in which we named earlier. If you look you will see that Muslims, Hindu's, Buddhist, Scientific atheist, ect..., all believe that there was a Jesus of Nazareth. A human, fleshly Jesus. For evidence proves that. Yes in fact most of them believe that he was just a special prophet from God; but do they believe he is the Christ? Absolutely not! What makes Jesus so different than all of the other prophets around the world? Simple! Jesus is the only prophet of God that claims to be and is the Son of God! This right here is why it is so hard for those of the antichrist spirit to believe in Jesus the Christ. For they cannot accept such a thing is even possible.
"Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ?" (1 John 2:22) So not only are they antichrist, they are also living under the power of a lie and are liars themselves! Now them that profess what they think to be the truth are deceivers unto others.(2 John 1:7) So if you put these three together, that makes that person or persons, a lying, deceiving antichrist. This does not sound like someone I would want to be friends with. Neither should you!(2 John 1:10)
Many of these antichrist spirited people come out from the church. From the gospel of the truth, from the ministry, from the true brothers and sisters in Christ; but they are not of them that are of the truth.(1 John 2:19) Yes they may know scripture. They may profess to be holy men and women. They may even strongly convince others that they speak the truth! Brothers and sisters I beg you, please beware of these false teachers, believers and false truths that are out in this world today! If you are unsure of who has or who has not the spirit of antichrist, than ask the person. Whether it be your family member, friend or a stranger. Do they believe that Jesus came to earth in human flesh as the Son of God? With this you shall have your answer? If they do not, than be not discouraged; but yet pray that God will manifest his truth to them! Amen
