What a great power we have in God through prayer! As you read this lesson, you will learn 3 key elements to a rewarding prayer life!
1. Praying from the Spirit-man.
2. Asking in amiss
(1) Spirit-Man. First we must acknowledge that God Is a spirit and therefore we must come to him in spirit and truth, (John 4:23-24). Most of us find ourselves praying from the thoughts of our head. We must open the secret chambers of our heart. For it is the hearts of men that God searches, (Luke 16:15).
While the mind goes 90 mph, the heart is planted whether it be for good or evil. It is in the heart that makes up the true person, therefor it is the heart that needs to connect with God. Consider this: a cell phone(us), the cell phone tower( God's thrown) and the signal our (heart to heart) connection to him. Do you get good signel?
When Jesus came to Jacob's well he encountered a Samaritan women. There he talked with her for awhile. Before he was finished talking with her he said to her,"But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth,(John 4:7-24). NOTE: Prayer is a form of great worship, look at the book of Psalms.
At that time "for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified,(John 7:39). Until the day of Pentecost, after Jesus' accention into heaven.(John 16:7). Therefore the 'gift' of tongues which comes from the Holy Spirit was not present at that time, because Jesus was present. In order for ''the comforter'' to come Jesus had to go to Father,(John 16:7) So this clearly means that Jesus' message to her was the heart connection with God and not a Holy Spirit gift of "divers of tongues".
In order to come to him in spirit we must have truth before him. For I am certain that there is nothing that can be hid from our Lord. The Lord knows your deepest chambers of your heart. Yet he gives us the privilege of being honest to him. As anyone knows that honesty and truth make for a better relationship.
Why think to hide certain ashamed sins from God? When in fact, it is those very same sins that you really want help from. So let us be honest with the Lord and pray from the Spirit-man and not our mind. NOTE: Praying in the spirit(heart) and praying in tongues(heavenly language) are two separate things. I will explain this in our future lessons.
(2.) Amiss. So many of us tend to do this one. Pray in amiss. The word amiss means: (lustful desire, wrongfully, morally ill and not for the good). How many times have you in prayer: ask for something that you wanted because someone else has it(coveting), or you felt you needed it? How many times have you ask for good in your life; but you have bad intensions, or unforgiveness in your heart for another, (Matthew 6:15)? Or how many times have you prayed to be rich and wealthy when your neighbors down the street have no clothing and food? How many times have you prayed for God to help and fix somebody else because you can't take them anymore? Or how many times have you ask God to change them, so that you may be able to stand them?
I too am guilty of these all. Therefore none of my prayers were really answered! We must learn what God's will is for our life's. How do we learn? We read and study his word,(2 Timothy 2:15). The more we read, the more we learn what his will(wants) are for us. The more we learn Him the less we become and the more He becomes in us. Therefore making our prayers line up automaticly in accordance to his will for us. Understand?
These are the things you will learn that God wants for us. Ask for these things and desire to have them in your life when you pray. Righteousness, fruits of the Spirit, love, wisdom and knowledge, patience, ect... For it is these things that make up the Kingdom of God which dwells from within.
Jesus said seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you,(Matthew 6:33). Jesus is the Kingdom of God which dwells from within you,(Luke 11:20 and Luke 17:21). So seek the righteousness of God first in your life, not wealth and riches and the payback of somebody in your life; but righteousness and he will meet your every necessity. This I assure you!
(3.) FAITH. This would have to be the most important of the three ingrediants. Yet you cannot bake a cake without the eggs and milk, for it to come out just right.
Did you know that without faith you cannot even please God, (Hebrews 11:6). (((WARNING))) All that is not of faith is sin,( Romans 14:23)! Oh how much more we need it in our prayer life!
In order to come to God you have to believe he is God (almighty, all that he is and can do). You cannot not say that you have faith when you pray and yet be wavering(worry and fear) when you don't see results immediatly, (James 1:6) and (Hebrews 10:23). You have to stand firm on your believe, while he puts things together in his own timing.
How do you know that God's answering to your prayer may concern somebody or something else that is required for the results of your prayer? Yet they or it is not in their's or it's positioning just yet. For the working of you. That is why it is important to keep on believing and thanking the Lord for the answer! Cause you never know what pieces of the puzzle the Lord is using to complete the picture!
I encourage you to use these power principle's in your prayer life. You will have your desires met. For your desires will be that of the Lord's!
Not my but thine will be done,(Mathhew 6:10).......
