Even in the Valley God is Good

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Psalm 23:4

What are you going through today? Is there pain or trials and you’re wondering how you can possibly take another step? Then I want to tell you that there is hope for you because God is a good God and He is there to help you. He will bring you to a place of rest and help you with whatever you need. (Is. 32:18)

There is joy unspeakable just knowing that God is indeed good and that He is good all the time! There is peace like a river knowing that He is a good God at all times. Praise the Lord for His goodness to all who depend on Him.

When is God good? God is good all the time! There is never a time or never a moment that God hasn’t been good to you. There is not a time He has not been faithful to you. There is not a time He will not help you. There is not a time He will forsake you. There has never been a time he hasn’t gone to bat for you. There has never been a time He has ignored your prayer. There has never been a time God hasn’t loved you. There has never been a time He wasn’t watching over you. There has never been a time He hasn’t sent His angels to guard you. For God is indeed good all the time!

O taste and see that the Lord is good, blessed is the man who trusteth in Him. Psalm 34:8

Sometimes we may fail to truly grasp the goodness of the Lord until He brings us out of our trials and tribulations. Then when we can look back and see all He has done, we begin to realize that He was surely there helping us all along. We see that He never failed us. He was good as He kept His hand upon us. He was good as He kept His Word to bring us out of the trial. He was good as He kept His promise. He was good as He saved us. He was good as He healed us. He was good as He held the hand that reached for Him. He has never failed any of us and He doesn’t plan to! If you’re waiting to see if He will fail you, you’re going to be waiting a mighty long time! One of the best characteristics of our great God is that He is good to His people. He cannot and will not be anything but good!

As I reflect back on when I learned personally about the goodness of the Lord, I see how He was faithful to walk with me through the deepest, darkest valley of my life. God proved Himself when I wondered where He was. Later, it was evident that He was with me through those dark times. His Presence comforted me both day and night. He was my Strength, my Rock and my Shield. Times like those are when we can get well acquainted with the Father and see Him for the very real God He is. We begin to see for ourselves and believe that He truly is good. But we must stay on our knees and at His feet during those difficult times of going through a valley and He will be faithful to answer us and bring us out. And when we do, it won’t be long before we’ll see what a good God He is and how He never lets us walk through alone.

Like I said before, my valley was a deep one and I began to wonder where God was. One day God showed Himself in such a way that I knew He was with me, but I had been too overwhelmed with my situation and hadn’t recognized that He was there helping me all along.

You may think this is a strange occurrence, but one day I had something very unique to happen to me. I was at a local hospital parking structure, had parked my car, gotten out and was walking to the elevator. Even though I was a fairly good distance from the elevator, I could see that the door was open and the elevator was full of people. I kept wondering why the door wasn’t closing, but as soon as I got in -- the door closed. Some of the people in the elevator even marveled and noticed clearly that the door wouldn’t close until I got on. One of the people on the elevator even jokingly remarked, “I believe Someone’s watching over you today!” That person sensed it too, but he had no idea what a valley I had been walking through and how much I needed some special encouragement. I can tell you that I felt like the Lord did that little miracle to show Himself as being there with me. He hadn’t deserted His little girl for He cannot desert His own. How beautiful that experience was and I ponder it from time to time of how God showed His Presence to me. I saw a glimpse into the goodness of the Lord that could not be denied. Praise the Lord for God is good!

The Lord is good to those who depend on Him, to those who search for Him. Lam. 3:25, NLT

Prayer: Father, thank you that you are indeed good to your people. You are good to those who trust in you. You are good to those who need salvation because you sent your Son into this world to save us. You desire for all people to know Him. You invite all who are weary and heavy laden to come. You will help them when they’re walking through a deep valley. You comfort your little ones. You love us. Thank you. I pray for all to come to Jesus and be saved. I pray for those who need hope to come to you because they will surely find it in you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
