A word fitly spoken, it's been said in the old
is like pictures of silver and apples of gold.
But a talebearer's words though spoken for gain,
sink deep in a heart and only cause pain.
Out of our mouth proceed good words and bad.
While we say we bless God
we curse those who make His heart glad.
If a man seem religious
and bridleth not his speech,
he deceiveth his own heart
and heaven--he may not reach.
How much better it would be
to guard our words spoken,
to paint pictures of silver
to give as love tokens.
So reach out in love, encourage a poor soul.
For a word kindly spoken
is more precious than gold!
