GIANT TREEā¦.
Ode to the favorite tree on our childhood farm
Oh great oak tree,
What has happened to you?
Where once you were mighty,
Now you are suffering from the ravages of time.
Your branches,
Where birds once nested,
And children rested,
safe in their forts round your base,
Now there is a sadness in your withering boughs.
Oh I remember once a kingdom and a king took residency at your roots.
I remember Lost Boys and Peter Pan, and Captain Hook in close pursuit.
Cowboys and Indians romped until dark.
Ah, so many memories hidden in bark.
Thank you, oh mighty oak,
For providing shelter, and reminiscences,
We can look back and reflect on our time with you,
before adulthood erased the memory of simple fun.
Thank you for standing tall and strong,
For being a refuge from the storms of life.
Thank you for teaching us about inner strength,
And standing tall ourselves.
Goodbye, giant oak.
