We had a choice that day
Two Moabite widows
Go forward or turn back
Forward to Bethlehem
Or back to our home, Moab
And likely new husbands
Naomi said, “Return…”(Rth 1:8, KJV)
Nothing awaited us
In Bethlehem but years
Of toil and poverty
My countrywoman listened
But a gnawing drew me
Like oxen drew a plow
To follow Naomi
To Bethlehem, to God
The God of whom she spoke
The God of all power
Who rewarded Rahab
A foreigner like me
I had to know this God,
And His ways for myself
So I chose Bethlehem
A life of endless toil
It was barley harvest
So I began to work
Expecting nothing more
Than enough food to feed
Naomi and myself
As I toiled in the field
The owner extolled me |
He was kind, old but kind
Still, he was not a man
I saw as my future,
At first glance anyway
But Naomi called him,
“…Near of kin unto us.” (Rth 2:20, KJV)
He would take care of me
As the harvest drew on,
Love grew up in my heart
Like Barley in spring
What a harvest God wrought
How could I have known when
I chose to go forward
Forward with Naomi
To Bethlehem, to God
That I would find true love
With eternal footprints
That through this love would come
Would later come a king
A king through whom would come
The man, the Divine One

Fresh perspective. Rewarding ending. Good insights, Monica - and shows how God sees the whole picture but wants us to commit not knowing the ending. Some of the rhythm could be smoothed out a bit(I have problems with that too in my stuff)
