Today is a wonderful day. It’s only 30 something degrees, its sleeting rain and bitterly cold but; “This is the day the Lord hath made and I WILL rejoice and be glad in it!”
My spirit is in tune with the Holy Spirit of God today more than I have felt in a long time and He has given me such a peace and joy that I cannot explain it or contain it. Such are the ways of our precious Lord – beyond explanation. For lunch I had Psalms 119. It is the longest chapter in the Bible and it is all about God’s Word. I urge you to read it, meditate on it, quiet yourself down, open your heart and let those words sink in….deep. You will be glad you did. Here are a few of the blessings I received while walking in the Word.
In the first two verses: Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD. Blessed are they that keep his testimonies and that seek him with the whole heart. The law of the LORD is His Holy Word. His testimonies - are again, His Holy Word. We seek Him when we read His Word. These verses tell me I am blessed for this.
Verse 11 says this: Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. When I read, meditate and hide God’s word in my heart, it keeps me from sin. It is stronger and more powerful than my flesh. It is a sustaining strength that upholds me when I am weak. Awesome…..
Verses 59 and 60 shows me my sin and convicts me - drawing a confession and a request for forgiveness. I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies. I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments.
Verse 73 reminds me to give God all the glory: Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.
Verse 77 is a request for His mercy: Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live: for thy law is my delight.
Verse 89 and 90 confirms God’s Word reigns in heaven and earth and everything abides by His Word: For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.
Verse 98 says: Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me. Wisdom is mine through God’s commandments!
Then in verse 105 (the famous verse): Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. The Word of God gives me light, to show me the right direction in every situation.
Verse 114 reminds me of the hope I have in Jesus through His Word: Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word.
Verse 158 reminds me to pray for the lost people all around me: I beheld the transgressors, and was grieved; because they kept not thy word.
Verse 165 says this: Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them. When I fall in love with God’s Word, I have great peace and nothing can offend me.
Is there anything better than peace?

Julia, you have written another great article! This one and Seek Ye First are wonderful lessons to start a new year with. Thank you. Psalm 119 is one of my favorite chapters in the bible. I will read it tonight before I go to bed. The best thing you said was that the Word of God is stronger and more powerful than my flesh. What a statement of faith and encouragement! God bless you...
