If Jesus Stopped At Your Door
If you opened your door this morning,
and you saw Jesus standing there,
What would you do at that moment,
would you just stand there and stare?
Or would you step back and to the side,
and invite him to come right on in,
And would you offer him your easy chair,
and then ask him how he has been.
If he asked you if you needed something,
would you jump up and say yes,
Or would you mention that family you know,
who are broke and homeless.
Would you tell him about the young mother,
who was left alone and abused,
And will you tell him about that teenage girl,
who's pregnant and so confused.
If Jesus came to your house today,
and asked if he could stay for a while?
Could you readily turn him away,
or offer your very best room with a smile.
And suppose he happened to ask,
if he could invite some friends over too,
Will you find excuses not to have them,
or say they’re welcome just like you.
If Jesus offered you a lot of money,
for your time, hospitality and your room,
Would you turn the money down,
and instead accept some roses in bloom.
And if he offered a brand new home,
for the kindness you have shown to him,
Would you mention the homeless shelter,
and then offer the new home to them?
Jesus does come to your house,
though you may not know him right away,
He might be your neighbor’s boy,
who asked if your child can come and play.
He could be that kind old gentleman,
who helped you up when you fell down,
And he could look just like anyone,
you may not even know that he is around.
The Bible teaches us that what we do,
to his children we also do unto him,
And if we fill another’s cup half way full,
he will fill our cup full to the brim.
Should we fail to help a neighbor or friend,
we are surely failing our Lord,
We all must live and work together,
to achieve his highest and final reward.
