1. "Rescue me, O Lord, from evil men; protect me from the men of violence."
Many times in my own life I have found myself in the company of men who believe power comes from violence. These men know little about the true power of self-control. Lashing out with words and actions meant to cause harm is no way to reach a man's true potential.
2. "who devise evil plans in their hearts and stir up war every day."
I see the terrorists determined to cause destruction in order to put fear in the hearts of innocent people. Can there be a more evil plan? If war is the focus of evil men, then it must hold true that even the greatest warriors have to seek peace if they are to side with the righteous. To have the same love of destruction as evil men will leave little room for a warrior to gain victory.
3. "They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent's; the poison of vipers is on their lips."
We know those people...people who are always stirring up trouble. They live for controversy. They are not happy unless someone else is miserable. They are quick to belittle those around them.
Psalm 140 continues on with much more good advice. I suggest you take a look. Read slowly...we all need the words to sink in - we all need to pray for protection from evil men!
