When He saw their Faith

Luke 5:20 And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee. (KJV)

No man comes to Almighty God with any of his impressive works saying, “receive me God for I will be great in your service.” The Lord Jesus Christ needs none of us to testify to Him about how good we are and how we love people and try not to harm anyone. He knows what is truly in every one of us.

One of the biggest problems for many people today and probably always is that they are too good and they do not need salvation. Multitudes of men and woman see themselves as not so bad. When we listen to God the Holy Spirit speaking through the Apostle Paul, we clearly here that none of us measure up in God’s sight.

Every child that comes into this earth comes with an evil heart. Race, culture, family prestige, family upbringing, money, or any other thing can never remove the filth that is born into every human heart. The new age religious movement is growing by leaps and bound. It is finding an audience amongst all types of people today because it asserts that we all are inherently good if we just tap into our inner goodness. In many places and many people are actually practicing this false/fake religion, dressing it up, and presenting it to people as Christianity.

There are thousands and perhaps millions of people all over this world who believe that they are Christians and at the same time think that Buddhist, Hindus, and other so-called religions give people an opportunity or path to God and Heaven. Heaven is not a hotel where anyone can check in if you have the right amount of resources to reserve a room. On the contrary, unlike any earthly hotel that will give a room to anyone whom can pay, this Heavenly Palace will only accommodate those who have made reservations (without any payment) well in advance.

It is impossible to make the reservations through any angel or any other Heavenly host. The Owner reserves everyone personally. Every soul must meet the Owner before they can enter. The Lord Jesus Christ is not here in the person of the Holy Spirit looking for good people to come and live with Him forever. He is looking for guilty people who have finally recognized the utter filth that dwells within them and seek a healer, a kinsman redeemer, a substitute, a deliverer, to make them right and remove their guilt and stench.

Faith goes beyond mere belief, but true faith (saving faith) enters into that arena of complete surrender of everything. Willing submission to the Lord Jesus Christ only yields access. For example, if a person approached by a gunman at a red light at 2:00 a.m., gives up his car, he does not do so willingly, but through coercion. He would like to keep his car but the severity of the circumstances causes him to yield and give it up.

Now the Lord Jesus never forces His gift on any soul. He can see the heart of every soul and will not ever enter until invited. The heart of every man or woman can never fool Him. Our lips may say one thing to Him but our hearts may be far from Him. He will never enter in any such case. Man's heart (thoughts, feelings, and will) is the problem and it is the thing, which man does not want to surrender.

In the Gospels, we find very different types of sinners. They have varying degrees of sin. They come to the Lord Jesus Christ for healing. In none of the cases did the Lord Jesus Christ ever speak to them about giving away soup or feeding the hungry, or building things for others, or giving money to someone in need, or any other so called good deed or work. He simply looked at each of them and in some cases asked the question, “What do you want me to do for you?” Not, “What can you do for me?” He then said it is your faith that has saved you or healed you, nothing else. He already told us through the prophet Isaiah that all of the good things that human beings do apart from Him is like a filthy rag in His sight.

The Lord Jesus rebuked the disciples when they berated the woman with the expensive oil. They wanted the money to be used for the poor, but the Lord Jesus said to them, “Let her alone she has done a good work upon me” You will always have the poor with you.” Any so-called good work by man that does not have the Glory of the Lord Jesus Christ as the only reason for the work is not a good work at all in His sight but it is filthy, disgusting, and sure to anger the Lord Jesus Christ and not please Him.

How tragic it is to watch so many misguided and deceived souls trying to work their way into favor with God. If you were to take a microphone and tape recorder and ask people how to get to Heaven you would here all sorts of answers that begin with we must do, keep, or give. Salvation is totally of the Lord and it is not a reward for the good on earth but an absolute gift for all of us who have finally recognized our guilt.

The Lord Jesus Christ explained an eternal truth to the Pharisee that invited Him to dinner. The man witnessed the woman washing Christ feet with her tears and drying them with her hair. The woman was not responding to Christ in that manner from mere servitude, or in order that she might earn His favor, but solely because He had so freely forgiven her of so much sin. Out of love and gratitude, she falls at His feet and humbly worships the Lord of Glory.

The Lord Jesus said to her “Your faith has saved you, go in peace (it literally means live in rest) .” She believed and trusted that He could make her whole and the Lord did just that for a very sinful woman. How sad it is when people trust buildings, creeds, codes, denominations, or any other thing but never truly turn their heart to trust Christ. Has He seen your Faith?

Sincerely in Christ,
