THE TRUE MEANING OF A CHRISTIAN
1Corinthians 5:17; 1John 3:9; Acts 11:25-26
“Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (1Corinthians 5:17).
“He that is born of God does not commit sin, for his seed remaineth in him and he cannot sin, because he is born of God” (1John 3:9).
Living the new life through Christ does not permit you to continue in sin, a Christian lives the new life in the power of Christ. One of the evidences of salvation and separation from the world is easily and quickly noticeable in a saved believer through the speech and appearance. When there is true and genuine change of life, the grace of God flows abundantly to make the Christian resist sin and evil to live victoriously while on earth.
A Christian is someone whose life spells and describes the word Christian.
C – Converted – Genuine conversion to Christ is evident in the believer’s life, language, attitude, dressing, and disposition. If there is no conversion, such a person is not a Christian.
H – Honest- There is no dishonest Christian. He/She is honest to self, to God and to neighbours.
R – Renewed – He is renewed in his inner man, basically because he has plunged himself into Christ’s blood to be washed from sin.
I – Instructed – He is instructed in spiritual things and knows what the rest of the world does not know. He knows Jesus as Lord and Saviour, not just a great teacher or a good man.
S – Separated – He/She is separated from the world to please God as Jesus Christ separated Himself to the father in all things.
T – Temperate – He is moderate in all things, diligent and disciplined.
I – Interceding – His life depends on prayer. He is always looking up to heaven for solution to his problems, whether personal or otherwise.
A – Alert – He is awake to righteousness. Though Satan comes with temptation, he will not be caught unawares. He is always watchful because he knows that the devil is his adversary actively working and seeking whom he may devour.
N- Noble- He is noble and dignified. He does not say or do anything that will make people ridicule the Christian faith.
“Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul, and when he had found him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and they thought much people. And they were called Christians first in Antioch” (Acts 11:25-26). A Christian is one who follows the teaching of Christ and therefore lives like Him. He/she lives by faith; he reads and constantly meditates on the word of God, always allowing it control his life. He closely examines himself to see whether he is still on track, in faith. He lives as a pilgrim on earth, ever ready to depart and be with the Lord. Are you a Christian by practice or in theory?
Today, the miracle of salvation can be yours if you surrender your life to the Lord Jesus Christ. The blood of Jesus will wash away your sin if as a sinner; you are ready to start a new beginning with the Lord. His grace can make you live a sin-free life.
