Do Not Be A Barren Fig Tree

Luke 13:6-9

A man had a fig tree in a vineyard. He came looking for fruit on it but found none. There was nothing but leaves on it. The man told the keeper of the vineyard that for three years he has came seeking fruit on this fig tree and has found none. He told the keeper to cut down the tree, because it is just wasting the ground.

The keeper told the man to leave it alone for a year, and he would dig around it and fertilize it. Then, if it bears fruit, fine, but if it doesn't, then he could have it cut down.

Every branch (believer) that does not bear fruit, God takes away and every branch that bears fruit, God prunes so that it may bear more fruit. We can bear fruit by glorifying God and becoming disciples of Christ. Live a Christian life, plant churches, and bring others to Jesus. God is not slack toward us, and His promises. He is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any person perish. God wants all to come to repentance (a change of heart).

God will have His day. He is waiting for the appointed time that He has set and only He knows. At the end of time, all that God has spoken, through the prophets, will take place, for the Lord cannot and does not lie. Though the end has not yet come, we are to expect it and live our lives like it is coming at any moment, and it could. The end of time is going to come, but it will not happen before it is supposed to. Just like the fig tree, God is giving mankind every possible chance to be saved and bear fruit for His kingdom. The Lord will have His day. He is a God of justice, and all who wait for Him are blessed.

In Ezekiel 33:11, The Lord God said, ďAs I live, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from their ways and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why shall you die O house of Israel." One day the wicked will be destroyed. God does not want that to happen. He desires that all of mankind has eternal life. Do not despise the richness of God's goodness, His forbearance, and longsuffering. The goodness of God is what leads to repentance.

The day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night. The heavens will pass away with a great noise and the elements will melt with fervent heat. Both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Friends, God wants to save you from this destruction. Please, do what you should to be ready. God does not lie. Do not be a barren fig tree.
