We had a wonderful Thanksgiving at my sister and brother-in-law's. Not all the Family could make it, but we had a great time, including a five mile hay ride.
I wrote this poem and read it before we said grace.
A Blackshear Georgia Family Thanksgiving 2008
Some people only get to celebrate Thanksgiving a few times
I've been blessed to celebrate 56, I hope this poem rhymes
As a child we would load up the car and off to Granny's we'd go
Now we are grateful to have Thanksgiving with Shirley and Joe
It seems as if every year we have a few more hungry folks
Hey Thomas, save me one of them eggs with the deviled yolks
Peas, greens, tater salad, dressing and more are on the table
Pro and college football is on, I'm glad Joe's got a TV with cable
Cokes, orange, grape and strawberry crushes fills the metal tub
Hey Joy and David, ain't this more fun than that ole English pub
Aunt Mil is itching to go on a New Holland tractor pulled hay ride
Justin, save me some of that chocolate delight lest I tan your hide
It's so good to see Missy with her beautiful, sparkling smile
Look at that pecan pie and all them deserts, what a pretty pile
Maybe Eva and Jack will play music and sing some songs
Hey Billy, I heard that Joanne bought you some new thongs
It would take a five page poem to mention everyone's name
But y'all are hungry and Leonard wants to watch the game
I'm thankful to be a part of this family and to be here today
Bless us, and keep us, and watch over us, O Lord, I do pray
Many of the ones who used to be with us are no longer here
But the special Thanksgiving memories of them I hold dear
Yes Lord, we give thanks to You this 2008 Thanksgiving day
And we know that You hold our future come what may
