Encouragement
As a father who dearly loves his children, I have found out the anguish that my parents felt when I was growing up. While you can love them with all your heart, you can't change what God has place within them, their own free will.
The hurt that is felt sometimes is unbearable. Your heart yearns to take control of the situation for your children, using your experience to guide them to the right decisions. But having faith in God can be the only fix for your childs situation.
I have raised my children with a place to come back to when things get tough. I continue to pray that they will see the lighted path that God has set before them. When straying from that path, I pray that they can come back to the center point and carry on from there. That center point is Jesus Christ.
My young seventeen year old continues to rebel like most young people. Easily influenced by the world around her, she tends to sacrifice her own moral standards to fit into the scene. This often leads to poor decisions in situations that call for clear decisive thinking skills.
She struggles to make her mark, to create her own world. She easily falls in love and takes it hard when it goes wrong. In thinking she must have someone in her life besides her family, she clings to anyone who shows the slightest attention to her. People who would be good for her are rejected by her.
If she only knew just how much her parents hurt when we see the direction of her travel and realize that it is a direction which leads to heartache. If she only knew how much her parents love her and want to be a part of making her life the best it can possibly be. If only she would come to us with her burdens and we could ease them with love. If only she would think of us first when she has to make a decision that will impact her life forever. If only, If only.
It is ironic that I feel the way I do. This father sees each of his children as gifts and are precious. This is ironic because it is exactly how our God feels about us. If only!

I feel for you with your children. It is difficult but keep praying. God has to put up with lost sheep, but the shepard often finds them. God Bless
Robert, your article touched me so much. I have an 18 year-old who is "making her own way" without benefitting from the wisdom of family. It is not just our guidance they reject, but the tender guidance of Christ. The foundation you have provided cannot be broken, however, because it is laid on the cornerstone of Jesus.
