Psalm 1243
It’s hard for me to ignore the injustice, Father,
justice is twisted through corrupt business practices
money is selfishly hoarded while exploiting the poor and needy.
Television flaunts the so-called good deeds of the wealthy
which claim to bring benefits and relief to the middle and lower class,
yet the middle class is dwindling and more are becoming poor.
Many gain wealth by cheating, the grain is mixed,
the scales are fixed, and the poor deal with high interest rates.
Look how they pretend to come to our rescue,
blinded by the very practices which brought them down
they get up again with no lesson learned.
New laws and plans claim to be for the benefit of the less fortunate,
but what do the lawmakers and rich tycoons really have in mind?
THEMSELVES!
Tax benefits for them and what they’ll get back at the end of the year.
Is that not what’s on their mind?
I hear words that sound so sweet,
they lead many to believe they truly do care,
but in the end it is the poor and the needy who are ignored.
Am I wrong, Father?
Is the middle class not dwindling?
Are those at the top truly committed to You
as the words ‘Lord’ and ‘God’ seep from their mouth?
Is their church attendance out of a pure heart
or is obligatory with meaningless rituals?
I will not worry about these troubles I bring before You, Father,
for You said times like these would come,
and these times show the truth in You word.
This is an opportunity to entrust myself fully to You and Your truth,
and You have full knowledge of the guilty and the innocent.
I know, Father, by my faith,
I will see how your justice rises above every work of deceit.
This is the time where help never thought possible comes to be
and I leave all justice in Your hands,
especially in the face of unjust earthly punishments,
for You are the ultimate judge bringing rewards to the innocent
and punishment to the guilty.
This is what I ask,
May our unbelieving neighbors see our honorable behavior,
that they may believe and give honor to You.
May we be honest in all our dealings and compassionate with the less fortunate.
In all things, Father, may we remember what You want us to be and do,
for prosperity can be the biggest destroyer of our relationship with You.
And I don’t mean to intercede, Father,
save those who were meant to live - if any in the coming quake.
I ask this in Jesus’ name,
Amen.
Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty,
Who was, and is, and is to come.
