Throughout history there has been a wide variety of heroes. Some fought in wars; some were famous athletes or entertainers. Then there are others that have earned the title of hero, simply by making the world a better place to live. All of history’s heroes should be commended for their accomplishments and contributions to the world.
Jesus, however is often ignored, forgotten or discredited as being a true hero. His story is one of immense courage, sacrifice and love.
Throughout his life, Jesus traveled from town to town preaching his fathers word, and granting forgiveness to all those who asked. He also healed the sick, returned sight to the blind, and fed a multitude with only five loaves of bread and two fishes. He never asked for any form of payment in return. The colors of their skin social status or degree of sins were not factors in receiving his mercy. While visiting the town of Jerusalem, Jesus was arrested and put on trial. Even though he was innocent of any wrong doing he was then found guilty and sentenced to death by crucifixion. He was then savagely beaten, mocked and made to wear a crown of thorns before being nailed to a crude wooden cross. Three days after his death Jesus was raised form the dead.
Through his death and resurrection we are given the opportunity of eternal life, if we choose to receive it. Jesus sought no personal gain from his tremendous suffering and sacrifice. It was purely done out of his immense love for the world. Never before has anyone deserved the title of hero, more then Jesus Christ.
Greater love has no man then this,
That he lay his life down for his friends.
John 15:13
