This information was for a question written (I leave the name anonymous). This is the question:

"I need help explaining what this text means and does the text pose any sort of challenge to the way a community thinks, believes, and acts."
This is the verse:
Matthew 7:21 "Not every one that saith unto Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord,; shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of My Father Which is in heaven." (KJV)

Good morning
I found your question and would like to reply.

Let's let God's Word do the teaching here. Again, I am just a person, and His Word is where we should check out what is said. So let's go to:

Matthew 7:21 "Not every one that saith unto Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord,; shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of My Father Which is in heaven." (KJV)

What is that day spoken here? It is the Lord's Day, or when He returns. What will happen right before His return? Let's let His Word tell us:

II Thessalonians 2:3 "Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition."
II Thessalonians 2:4 "Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the Temple of God, shewing himself that he is God." (KJV)

In other words before that day, the Lord's return, that son of perdition, Satan, will sit where he ought not showing or playing God sitting in His seat. Falling away or apostacy. And here in:

Revelation 13:11 "And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon." (KJV)
So Satan looking like a lamb, or playing that he is Jesus and sitting in his throne saying he is God. He speaks like a dragon for he is the dragon as God does a beautiful job explaining who Satan is, his roles through the beginning, the serpent and then to these last days right before HIS return as the dragon, the false prophet, the one that will sit in God's seat playing, God, Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, Saviour or whatever people believe in first. So that apostasy will take place, BEFORE His return here:

Revelation 12:7 "And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels," (KJV)
Revelation 12:8 "And prevailed not, neither was their any place found any more in heaven." (KJV)
Revelation 12:9 "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and this angels were cast out with him." (KJV)

So fixing this one specific time in God's Word, that "day" or the day of His return, then as we learned what happens? Satan will sit in God's seat deceiving the whole world saying he is God! That is when Jesus says "I don't know you," meaning they think they are worshipping Jesus, but Satan wearing the false clothing or role (wolf in sheep's clothes). The people, the whole world, this will as GOD's Word tells us a global thing - worldwide.

So, what do we do as a community, a nation under God, we stick with Him. Remember God sees the individual and we are judged by our acts as here:

Revelation 20:13 "And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works." (KJV)

What does this say? According to their works, not to some religion, government, nationality, race, creed, family name, it's by each person's actions.

Now let's go to the beginning of this chapter the first sentence:

Matthew 7:1 "Judge not, that ye be judged." (KJV)

So we are talking about judgment and how dear God will judge which is based on His will. What is His will, but this Word of God. What is His Word, let's let that Teacher, God's Word, do the teaching here:

John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." (KJV)

So nothing new here it's what God has us. Okay so back to the Matthew 7:21,
Let's go back a few verses:

Matthew 7:15 "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves." (KJV)

God's people the sheep, He is the Shepherd, or takes care of the People as here in:

John 10:11 "I am the good Shepherd: the good Shepherd giveth His life for the sheep." (KJV)
The wolves then the enemy and those that follow him. so in that verse, Matthew 7:15 false prophets (wolves in shee's clothes), those that go away from God's Word, misleading His People (sheep).

Let's continue then:

Matthew 7:16 "Ye shall know them by their fruits, Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?" (KJV)
In other words, you are going to the wrong source to get the Truth. If it does not come from His Word and can be documented or check out in His Word, it is not from Him. Let's go on:

Matthew 7:20 "Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them." (KJV)

So if something does not line up to His Word and goes away from Truth as here:

Matthew 7:13 "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:" (KJV)

The strait gate, is THE WORD OF GOD. The opposite or going some other way which is not from His Word, will lead to destruction. And who is the destructor, but the devil. But we have victory in He that came as Son of man, coming into the world in flesh just as the we, the children, did to show us how to do the Will of GOD, His Word. So we have HIM for the example as here:

Hebrews 2:14 "Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He also Himself likewise took part of the same; that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;" (KJV)

Jesus, born of Mary, the virgin, and then HE, Emmanuel as here:

Matthew 1:21 "Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us." (KJV)
Which is quoting from way back here in the Word, as all of it is necesary, as Jesus would always ask having you read? Let's got o:

Isaiah 7:14 "Therefore the LORD Himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel."
Immanuel (Strong's 6005) with us (is) God; from 5973 and 410):
(Strong's 5973) with, specificall equally with.
(Strong's 410) the Almighty God.
So God, Immanuel, God with Us, did what HE has us all do come through this earth in the flesh, doing God's Will, the WORD, not only doing it, but perfectly so we learn by HIS Living Example. It's all there written out in the Word. So back to your question, and let's continue:

Matthew 7:14 "Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth into life, and few there be that find it." (KJV)
The Word is there for us all to have and to know with understanding from God, through His Prophets and then by Jesus, Immanuel, God with us, by giving us the Living Teacher of His Will or Word. It's there in black and white and straight, but it's up to each person to decide. So now back to the remainder of your question,

"I need help explaining what this text means and does the text pose any sort of challenge to the way a community thinks, believes, and acts."

Common sense would tell us if the community the way they are doing things if it jives or goes along with The Word, they are going on the Right Path. They stray and we see everyday how they bring destruction on themselves by going from Him. Let's for example go back here regarding building house onto house or large cities and what they breed:

Isaiah 5:8 "Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field till there be no place, that they may be placed alone in the midst of the earth!" (KJV)
What do we witness today where we join house to house, crime, pollution, and so on. God not only tell us but with warning us (He says "Woe" ) us going away from Him and doing things HIs Way, naturally you will get these things. Then people can't undertand why the crime rate goes up, guns in schools and on and on. This is just one example for you.

I hope HIS WORD has helped answer it. Ask Him, talk with Him, and HE will open your eyes. Do the work and get into studying HIS Word.

Thank you.

Melinda
