I Was There

I Was There

I could hear the axe, as it cut into the timber
that would become, the gateway to salvation
I could see the crowd gathering, at that cross
that offered mankind, a heavenly destination

I could hear the ringing of that old hammer
proclaiming itís mission, throughout the land
As the wicked soldiers drove those big pikes
into our Saviorís feet, and his precious hands

I heard the evil laughter, their taunting cheers
coming from the multitude gathered all about
If thou be a mighty King, as you so proclaim
now save thyself was the mobís defiant shout

I saw a tiny babe still in the safety of a womb
whoís time to be born, was still waiting to be
As I listened and observed all of these events
suddenly I realized, that unborn babe was me

My Savior saw the same thing, I was viewing
it was I, that made him was so willing to die
I knew my sins were the reason for his death
all I could do was crumble down and just cry

Who was I, that this man is willing to die for
Lord you have it all, Heaven and all itís glory
Why youíd leave, a place of perfect splendor
just to come down and rewrite my lifeís story

I felt this heart, swelling all up on the inside
I felt his love and mercy, reaching out to me
Then I opened my eyes and my heart to him
I allow his grace to take me back to Calvary

Yes, I was there on that day our Savior died
not in body, but in the heart of Jesus Christ
Because of a great love for those he created
God knew only his blood, could ever suffice

This is a very wonderful message, so fresh, so new, and yet so old...Yes, I was there, too...Thanks for sharing this new insite....Sorry it has been so long since I have gotten to your articles. I haven't been to the computer much lately. I haven't been feeling up to it. I am still not very well, but should be in a day or so...Just the flu...Helen
