To the rest of the world, we Americans must appear to consist of anything but “united” States. Not only are we Black, White, Hispanic and Asian, etc. but, within each group, there are splinter groups: Pro-Life, Pro-Abortion, Pro-Gun and Anti-Gun, Gay and Straight. Even among our Christian sects, we say we serve the same God but build churches of various flavors on every street corner, causing confusion to the onlookers. Some of us follow causes, others follow people. Some are loyal to individuals while others are loyal to their own pocket books.
One would think that, having such a menagerie moving along in relative order would draw the envy of all the world. True, more people are trying to come to America than are trying to escape to Russia or China or Iraq. My concern is that we have fallen into a trap and, like lemmings, others are following close behind.
We are in many states here, from sea to shining sea, including the states of confusion, delusion, the state of depression, the state of poverty, the state of deception and a state of shock.
Allow me to explain: Together, we have an assembly of united states, that is to say, various “states of being” which, when tossed into the same melting pot, though blended, are anything but united. These “states” have us enslaved – bound with shackles that hinder our real progress as individuals and even as Christians. Yet, we persist on calling ourselves “free.” Frankly, we don’t even exercise the spiritual liberty made available at Calvary.
Across the fruited plain, we are several “nations” in one. First, in America, there is a great deal of Discrimi-Nation – a “nation” that has formed its own ungodly caste systems in nearly every social sector from Industry to Education, even in the Church, inviting division and strife in every realm of community. Though God never gave one man dominion over another, we have become conditioned to live that way.
Second, our sinful and violent ways are an Abomi-Nation to God. Frankly, more people are murdered in the “peaceful USA” than are murdered “over there” in our wars across the oceans. And WE are trying to help THEM to live in peace?
Third, our collective Imagi-Nation serves to condemn us, causes us to fear, to doubt, to lose our confidence, to fantasize and to entertain ungodly notions until they take root within our souls and manifest through all kinds of depravity and criminal behavior. When the mind of man combines to conjure up so many evils, we can blame Satan all we like, however, “HE” is nothing but “US,” having no more power than we ascribe to him. Yes, the battle is for our mind. Too often, we surrender without firing a shot.
Anything with two heads is considered a freak. We say we love the God of Heaven but we openly serve the idols of mammon and self. We, as a nation, were established through a Spirit of Independence and we are quite proud of that; our national pride is second to none.
Though many struggled to get here, too often, most forget we had nothing to do with being born here or waking up here today.
Though many have sacrificed to establish freedom for ourselves and many others, most of us never give them a second though while taking a long weekend in their “honor.” We, the people, have become ungrateful and foolishly independent from our God. We, like the foolish Galatians of Scripture, have been bewitched.
So, what’s a Citizen to do? Rest assured that all governments rise and fall as God ordains (Daniel 4:32; Romans 13:1-5). We are promised that any nation that honors God will reap blessings and any nation that does not will suffer His judgment (Proverbs 14:34; Psalms 2:1-12). Bear in mind that we are NOT from here; we are merely passing through (Philippians 3:20-21; Acts 17:24-27). We must never forget that we serve no King but king Jesus. He is our hope, our Deliverer, our Providence. Our confidence is in Him alone, not in a worldly government or its governors.
We are likely to face more difficult times on the road ahead. For those who know God, things are getting “gloriously darker.” In other words, it won’t take much light to shine and draw others into a relationship with you and with Him.
That’s Good News!
Is Liberty running amok? If so, let’s purpose to use this opportunity - yes, it’s an opportunity - to the whole world’s advantage.
A servant of God
