The path of sorrows I trod
Left stabbing pain within my soul.
I loved my God but
He loved me not,
For how could He desert me
In my fiercest battles.
I mourn in silence
And blame my God
For putting me in this jeopardy.
Then I met a ragged old man
Who lost his family and wealth;
He was blind from birth,
As poor as a rat,
And he had nowhere to go.
Yet what amazed me
Was how he glorified the Lord
With so much passion,
Even in tears and in agony.
I heard him sing:
Lord, I carry my cross with joy
For You carried the Cross that I may live.
With shame I bowed before my God,
I sought His face
But He gave me His heart.
He whispered "I always love you, my child",
And then I knew that
My broken love had mended.
