"Yes, indeed, I certainly do count everything as loss compared with the priceless privilege of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have lost everything, and value it all as mere refuse, in order to gain Christ and be actually in union with Him, not having a supposed right standing with God which depends on my doing what the law commands, but one that comes through faith in Christ, the real right standing with God which originates from Him ad rests on faith." Philippians 3:3:8-9 Williams NT
Attitudes can carry us a long way in life or they can hold us back. Persons with selfish, self seeking attitudes, (life is all about me) often miss out on many important things in life. Looking in the mirror and seeing what I WANT and I DESIRE is indeed a selfish attitude. Although it is healthy have goals and plateaus to reach we must remember, life is not about the person we look at in the mirror. Life is about have an intimate relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and following God's ways.
It is time for many of us to be so completely selfish and self-serving and humble ourselves with a broken heart and spirit to realize God is seeking us to know Him and be more like His son, Jesus. Try this, instead of seeking some little insignificant personal conquest for yourself, look outside of yourself and see what is happening around you. There are a lot of people who long to be touched with kindness and compassion. Your selfish acts and mine have no place in the house of the Lord. We must set aside selfishness and pursue living with a humble heart and have a spirit that longs for the Lord.
Consider what your life would be like if you had everything taken from you and all you had was a modest place to live, clothes for your back and no money in your pocket. You have no way to get any money or help for "the world" sees you as washed up and useless. Everyone laughs at how selfishly you have lived. Would your life be lived differently if you knew that before night fall you would die? Who would you reach out to in your last hours for help, if you had nothing to offer anyone? Would anyone care if you are dying of a deadly disease, needed medical treatment and had no way to pay for it? What about your soul? If you were to die this very day, would Jesus come to meet you or would you fall by the wayside and reside in the place where those who do not believe God will ultimately end up?
Your attitude is all important as is mine. What you believe about the Lord Jesus Christ makes a difference in where you will spend eternity. Your decisions and your lifestyle are important as you journey the road of life. Like it or not, believe it or not, eternity does exist and your soul will either reside with joy and happiness with the Lord or you will live in eternal torment and isolation with the evil that tries to escape the judgment that is to come.
Please read the Scriptures and know they are true. Don't be hung up on what you "want" to be true but realize God has given us His plan for mankind and we need to accept and believe in the Lord now and ever more. Start reading in John 1:1 and keep on reading ...seek the Lord and find peace and contentment in your life. May the peace and love of God fill your heart and spirit this very moment and may you yearn for Christ as never before.
