"Remove the dross from the silver, and out comes material for the silversmith;" (Proverb 25:04)
Can you imagine a silversmith trying to create a fine artifact without first removing the impurities from the silver? If he would leave the dross in the silver there would be weak spots and voids in the finished product, and it would never have the value that it would have had had it been pure. Isn't the application to our lives obvious? If we allow the Lord to work the impurities and weaknesses out of our lives our lives will be suitable to be molded into something beautiful. The problem, though, is that removing the dross requires heat. Do you complain every time the Lord turns up the heat on your life, or do you look around to see what dross is being boiled away? James wrote that we should count it all joy when we face tribulation. Wasn't he saying that we should embrace the heat?
