“Everything happened so fast. I didn’t even have the chance to scream. Then things just turned blurry. It’s as if it never happened. Images of my life surrounds me but nothing makes much sense now. Its’ as if I have cease to exist. Am I dead?”
The phone rang late at night. Nile wake up from her sleep and wondered who could be calling at that time of night. She grudgingly got out of her bed and walk down the stairs. Everybody is practically sleeping. She looks at the clock again and for a moment thought of Daniela, her sister. The phone continued to ring and as Nile picks it up she sense a feeling of fear creeping down her spine.
The phone was dropped.
“I’m surrounded but they seem so far away. Mama, papa… What happened? The rain is pouring again itself again. And that noise… why? Why did it have to hurt so much? I’m in that room again and that dress… why does it have to be so white? A glass broke and blood …. My blood… why …. Why did it have to hurt so much?”
The sound of the siren sounds so unbearable to Nile. The sight of injured people is more unbearable to take. Daniela called that night and told her that an explosion occurred during the seminar. Fortunately, Daniela was not feeling so well so she stayed in her room. However, Luie and their friends were heavily injured. Ana died. Ana… Nile thought of her cousin. She thought of Ana’s dreams to become a ballet dancer. Now, no one will ever see her dance. Nile feels so sick of herself she could vomit. The rain poured more heavily that night while the sound of the siren continues.
“If only… I could have changed it. .Everything could have been different but…I’m scared… I’m so scared. It’s so cold. The glass broke. They’re arguing again. When will they stop? Andrew… I thought you promise…It’s raining again and that noise. I tried to feel my arm. It’s wet...Blood… how? Where am I? and that noise...Please… somebody make it stop… stop… Somebody… please… stop.. it…
The rain poured as if it will never stop. Nile is walking around the hospital’s lonely corridors. She could feel her stomach grumbling but food is the least thing in her mind. Ana is dead and so is Jack. They were her best friends since elementary. Why? Why did it happen? She can feel her weary body falling apart and yet her knees refuses to kneel down. It’s as if a part of her refuses to understand. She has been crying all evening and all her head is just spinning. The rain continues to pour. It’s as if it will never stop.
“The rain…. It reminded me of you, Andrew… It reminded me of our first kiss. We shared it under the rain. We made a promise but… where are you now? Why did you let me go? The glass is breaking again. They’re arguments… it’s pitiful… I’m tired of waiting… tired of them… tired of you… Let me go… Please just let me be… That sound… please stop that sound…
Nile woke up. She got so tired the night before that she just doze off on the chair. She can hear Daniela’s voice from the other room. She was sobbing again with her parents. Nile’s parents were there and they tried to console Daniela’s family. Nile observed from a distance and wondered how could God take away the life of 2 people in an instant without any thought of those left behind. Nile stroll off to the hospital’s cursed corridors in a means to find a sense of peace. She heard crying from a corner Curiosity causes her to come after it. Nile saw a young man crying with his hands covering his face. His grief seems inconsolable just as Daniela’s grief is. An older woman approaches the young man and called out his name. The man’s name is Andrew.
