I was reading in Jeremiah 18 where the Lord instructed Jeremiah to go down to the potter’s house and learn a lesson there. I found myself deep in thought about the words recorded so many years ago. What lesson did He have for me?
I began to think about America and the many disasters that have plagued us in the past decade; four hurricanes in a short time slamming Florida, three hurricanes wasting the Gulf Coast, thousands of unprecedented wildfires in California, fires and fires and mudslides in the Northwest, thousands of acres of farmland flooded, and the increase of killer tornadoes. Checking the facts, I found that looking back a bit further; there have been 48 major weather disasters in the past 21 years.
“If at any time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be uprooted, torn down and destroyed, and if that nation I warned repents of its evil, then I will relent and not inflict on it the disaster I had planned. And if at another time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be built up and planted, and if it does evil in my sight and does not obey me, then I will reconsider the good I had intended to do for it.” Jeremiah 18:7-10
God’s response to man is contingent on man’s response to His commands. He Himself is changeless but His response to us depends on US!
It is time to take an inventory. He says “Be Holy because I am Holy.” (I Peter 1:16) What does that mean to us? Think about it; make your own list of ways we choose to reject His plan for us. What’s on your list? How do we measure up in 2008 to His plan for our “One Nation under God?” His Word says we are His temple; His dwelling place. If we believe that, what we do we ask Him to do with us. Ouch!
In California recently a young couple applied for a marriage license. Seeing the words Party A and Party B, they changed it to bride and groom and filled in their names. The license was denied.
A woman’s choice leads to abortion but; if a pregnant woman is murdered, the murderer is charged with two counts of homicide.
“IF my people who are called by MY name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin AND heal their land.” II Chronicles 7:14.
