Jesus insisted only one thing positively. That is LOVE. Love God and love your neighbor. But Jesus spoke much about discarding two things 1) sin not 2) fear not.
SIN NO MORE
Whenever Jesus met people who do not live a righteous life, He was sure to tell them the love of God and asked them not to sin anymore. He said to the woman who was caught in adultery, “I do not condemn you either. Go from now on sin no more“- John 8:11.
He said to the one who was sick for 38 years, not to sin anymore, so that nothing worse happens to him. - John 5:14.
We find Jesus asking us to discard fear and live a fearless and free life. He insists not to fear in many occasions.
WE find Jesus telling His disciples and people not to fear. “Fear not, I am with you,” were always His encouraging words.
In Matthew 10, we find Him saying this repeatedly. He said to His disciples three times within a few verses.
Matthew 10:26 do not fear
Matthew 10:28 do not fear
Matthew 10:31 do not fear
EVEN AFTER HEARING HIM THEY WERE FEARFUL
Even after listening to Jesus throughout the day, they were scarred. When soldiers captured Jesus everyone left Him alone and fled. Peter denied Jesus three times because he was so much afraid of them. They were afraid of the Jews not only when they captured Jesus and killed, but even after hearing the news that Jesus was alive after His resurrection. Peter and John went to the tomb of Jesus and saw the empty tomb, but still they were fearful of their lives and lived in a closed room as we read in John 20:19. Jesus met them in their closed rooms, but still they could not come out of their fear and still were living in the same closed rooms - John 20:26.
TO CAST AWAY FEAR
Jesus said, you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth - Acts 1:8.
And when the Holy Spirit came upon all of them on the day of Pentecost they really got the power and became true and bold witnesses of Jesus Christ right in the midst of Jews for whom they feared till then. With that power, Peter could tell the Jews that they killed Jesus and brought 3000 Jews to believe Jesus in one single message (Acts 2).
WHAT DO WE NEED TO DISCARD OUR FEAR
All we need is the same power of the Holy Spirit. We might hear thousands of messages and read million writings, but they all just will only be theory. Christian life is not just theory, but it is very much practice. It will be practical not by our human power, but by the divine power.
FEARLESS WE ARE
Let us believe in Him who has promised to anoint us with His Holy Spirit for everyone those who believe in Him and seek Him with thirst - John 7:37, 38.
