5 Why are you downcast, O my soul?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.
Thoughts of failure, loss and hopelessness can invade your mind, chasing, tormenting, and even destroying you. You run from these thoughts, only to find that they are nipping at your heels. You try to hide only to realize they are stalking you.
When angry and bitter thoughts leave you running for your life, God offers sanctuary and shelter. With one wave of his mighty hand he chases away the brutal thoughts and, one by one, he replaces them with thoughts of kindness, goodness, gentleness, and faith. Love transform your mind, and hope restores your heart. He promises that even though you may hear the wild beasts growling in the distance, they can never again harm you as long as you dwell in the shelter of his loving arms.
God, my Father, thank you for restoring hope to my heart and peace to my mind. You are my Savior and my God. In Jesus' name. Amen.
