2am, I walked the streets with the denizens of night
In the red light district of Amsterdam, higher than a kite.
A sleazy little man approached me,
“Speed, coke, heroin or E?
Uppers, downers, poppers hash?
I’ve got you anything want, if you’ve got the cash”
“I don’t want your poison, I don’t need to score,
All I want tonight my friend, is a dirty little whore.”
”OK” he said “you come with me,
I show you girl, come now - you see!”
“There you go, fella, this is Manuella.”
She said “I was leaving, but you are in luck,
For one hundred Guilders, I’ll give you a ****.”
I gave her the money, not one penny less,
She counted it out and ordered; “undress!”
And as I stood there in all my glory,
She began to tell me her story:
My father used to rape me, my brother raped me too,
My mother used to beat me ‘til I was black and blue,
I never told nobody, no-one ever knew,
I was only eight, what’s a girl to do?
I used to burgle houses, I did it just for kicks,
And with the cash I’d stolen, I’d get another fix.
At 12 I went to a juvenile jail
Bet rehab was always going to fail
In and out and in some more
Caught up in a revolving door.
At 16 years they made the decision
To send me to the adult prison.
A big butch woman by the name of Gwen
Who’d murdered half a dozen men
Ran that place, like she was King
She took me underneath her wing.
Sex and violence and drugs were rife!
They were the happiest days of my life!
Then one day they told me “you’re free!”
Now then, what's to become of me?
One day I might tell you more
How Manuella became a whore.
When she’d finished her anecdote
I snorted coke through a 10 Guilder note
She shot Heroin to ease the pain
I said “Don’t worry, you don’t need to explain”
I was feeling really bad,
“Can I help you?” I asked, she said I already had.
She told me “You know, you’re really alright,
Would you like to come home with me tonight?
The pain hurts so much when I am alone,
I really can’t bear to be on my own
And seeing as you are my last ride of the day
You can **** me all night” so I said “…………OK”
We left the brothel and crossed the canal
She said wait right here while I go see a pal
Two hours later she hadn’t returned
I had realised by now that I had been burned.
A police car pulled up and 3 coppers jumped out
The man stood beside me was given a clout
He was punched in the stomach and kicked in the head
Thrown in the police car and then off they sped.
This was I sight that I could not believe,
I knew right away it was now time to leave.
The morning after, I went back that way
Nobody knew her, or they just wouldn’t say
Nine years, eight months later, I still remember that day;
“Manuella, I love you,
I’m still thinking of you,
I hope that your life is no longer a mess.
Good night and sweet dreams,
Good luck and God bless!”
