Freemasons? what are they? who are they?
Freemasonry is the largest international fraternal order in the world. It is a secret society that seeks to perpetuate its traditions through symbolism, rituals, and oaths taken on pain of death if broken. There is no central authority, book or even definition of Freemasonry that all masons accept.
To gain credibility and stature, Masons claim to have ties to ancient biblical accounts. Legends include unproven assertions that the first Masonic aprons were Adam and Eve's fig leaves; that Freemasonry dates back to the time of Solomon, who employed them to construct the temple; that Masons are connected to biblical accounts of the Tower of Babel, of Noah and of Seth.
Traceable origins go back to James Anderson, George Payne, and Theo Desaguliers who founded the first Masonic Lodge in London, England in 1717. The first US Lodge was in Boston in 1733.
Freemasons teach the ivic values of brotherliness, charity and mutual aid and that all religions acknowledge the same God. They blend its own myths and rituals with the elements of other religions, including Christian, Islamic, Jewish and Pagan. Joseph Smith Jr. who founded the Mormon Church was a Mason and their rituals are virtually identical.
At beginning levels, their world view is almost Unitarianism, which teaches that God is the creator but He does not clearly reveal Himself and specifically through Israel. They reject the Bible and Jesus as the Messiah.
At higher levels, it is almost occult like. The higher a person progresses in Freemasonry, the deeper one gets involved in the occult, spiritism, deception and blasphemies against God.
Many Christians see Freemasonry as relatively harmless fun and games where men serve the community through the Shriner's hospitals and other forms of good works. There are some major differences though in what they believe and what the Bible says.
They believe the Bible is not the Word of God, but a symbol of His will. Whatever expresses that will, be it the Qur'an or Vedas, its all good. This does not fit well with Christians cause we believe the Bible is the Word of God to be used as truth for our lives.
They also believe Jesus is not the Son of God or the Savior, but just a great man but not divine and certainly not the way to Heaven. To Christians, Jesus is the reason we live. He is our savior and redeemer and He is the only way to Heaven.
They also believe that Humans are good, even divine and human nature is perfectible. Christians believe that humans are sinners and in need of a savior.
As you can see, Freemasons are unbiblical. They use the Bible but delete Jesus' name from Scripture. Speaking Jesus' name is forbidden in their rituals and prayers. We should pray for them to see the truths and that Jesus is the way to Heaven.

Mr. Thompson: I had a great uncle who in ignorance associated himself with this deception. And an aunt who joined the Eastern Star, the female chapter of Free Masonry I believe. Lately I discovered that the symbol of the Eastern Star is the same as Satanic worship --a pentagram -- the star with two point down, one up and one to each side. My aunt suffered years of mental illness and I believe this is the root of it all. She too was ignorant of this deception in her life. Ironically both she and my uncle were devout Christians. I sent the materials to her grand daughter insisting that she should denounce and repent of this involvement. Unfortunately my uncle is deceased for many years so I couldn't warn him. They grew up in a time when it was easy to be ignorant, but not anymore. Thanks to people like yourself -- God Bless You.
