What's New
A letter to those affected by the recent Economic crisis in US

I was attending a big company town hall meeting. It was also my first taste of this kind of big meeting. The speaker was a Senior executive and it just amazes me to think that I'm part of this meeting. One thing for sure, I'm no longer a-happy-go-lucky-college-student. I'm now an employee to a big company and that's quiet a change of lifestyle. As the discussion went on, I slowly became board and wish that it would just be over. Then, a person ask the speaker how the company is handling the economic problem in America. I honestly, don't understand what's the connection. Yeah, I know that the company originally came from US. I also understand that my company offers global services. However, I don't get the connection. "Like ….Hello!!! We are not Americans!"
I listen to the conversation that followed and I began to see a glimpse of that connection. Their economy, for reasons I don't know is going through a crisis. As a result, many companies are affected and one of them is the company that I'm working with. Fortunately, Mr. Señor executive says that the company is a very flexible company and in a way assured us that all is well. Everything went as usual after that meeting but a part of me became interested at what is happening with the US economy.
So I began to read internet articles regarding this present issue.
Apparently, it seems that their economy is going through a great deal of problem due to debt. The issue is actually more complicated than that but for me: that's the bottom line. And I thought my country has a very big debt-problem. I guess even the 1st world countries are experiencing such problems. According to some articles I've read many Americans are experiencing sleep problem for fear that their insurance, bank accounts etc... would go under. I thought about my time deposit and decided that I would probably end up doing the same thing if I were in in their shoes (Well… maybe I am in the same situation as they are. I'm just not "so" aware of it.).
Other articles give tips on how to secure their money while some reported what the government is doing to prevent their financial situation to worsen. Really, this issue is circulating all over the internet. If it hadn't been for that weird question, I would have not taken the time to consider it. This surely reflects my lack of interest for business and politics. I would rather focus on how to get a job done than to let such things bother me. Yet, this doesn't mean that it has no impact on me.
As I reflect on my response, I realize that I really am apathetic to the needs of other people. I have a what-doesn't-affect- me-is- not-my-concern attitude. It's the kind of attitude that help me avoid unnecessary worries but it also prevents me from doing fulfilling the 2nd greatest commandment of God. That commandment is to love my neighbors as I love myself. As a person I have no power to influence the US economy. I can't even change the fact that my own country has a very big debt with the world bank. Yet, this doesn't mean that I have no responsibility to the things that I have control over with. I can control my response to the economic problems that occur and I certainly can write an encouraging article. So here I am writing this one. If your one of the people directly affected with the economic US problem and is having sleepless nights; I hope that this letter can help you go to sleep.

To whom it may concern;
I don't know you and you don't know me. All I'm really sure is that there is an economic problem in US and that thousands of people are having sleepless nights. I admit that I can't fully understand your situation and that I'm not the best person to write this. None the less, I'm here to tell you to Trust God. The God that I'm referring to is the God of the Bible. He is the one true God who created the heaven and the earth and He sent his son, Jesus, to die for you. He gave his all for you. That is His love for you.
Again, I don't know you and I don't know your background. Yet, I do know that the same God who took care of me will surely take care of you. He can give you your desires but that is for him to decide. He can give you financial security if he choose to. However, is that his best for you? Could it be possible that His best plans for you could only be attain by letting you go through this painful crisis? This idea may seem ridiculous and highly stupid to you but our thoughts and ways are not the thoughts and ways of God.

Here in my country, there are millions of people who can't even eat once a day. There are those who linger through the streets begging for food. I've seen them so many times in my life that somehow I just got so use to their sight. Indeed I have become apathetic to their needs. At times, I question God's goodness and why there is so much social injustice. The only answer I found is EL Hay. El Hay is one of the name of God indicated in the old testament. It means the Living God. For me, it is a promise that he knows and that he has a plan. Somehow those poor beggars manage to survive the harsh reality of their existence. What is your situation compared to their problem? I worry about my task while they worry where to find work. You worry about your bank account while they worry where to sleep for the night. We both worry of our future while they don't even know where to get their next meal. Every time I see a child covered with dirt walking on the street without a shoe, I know I'm bless. I will not explain why God allowed that t happen nor will I try to explain away your pain or your problems. All I could offer is the reminder that God has a reason.
If you can't sleep for tonight please remember that He is the Living God and that he has a reason. God Bless you

May you have a good night sleep after reading this letter.
