ďForget the former things; do not dwell in the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.Ē
I believe that many of us if not all, have something that happened in our past that we just want to forget. We have done things that we are so embarrass to admit or confess. Some of us learned from our mistakes, but some dwell on their pasts giving them a lifetime of misery. Some people kept on repeating the same mistakes until they are are buried in the valley of the shadows of death (or maybe debt for that matter). Then they start wondering why things are not going the way they want it and why they are living such a messy existence.
The world is full of distractions and temptations that can easily pull us away from God. Christians are no exceptions. The Enemyís target are us, who are closer to God. Thatís the reason we need to cling to the Word of God daily, because itís the Sword of the Spirit Ė our Manual for living this life of confusion.
But thank God for His promises if we just cling to them. God allows U-turns. No matter where we are now, He can use our situations or circumstances around for good. We can give thanks in all circumstances because itís Godís will for us in Christ Jesus. In this we can rejoice.
We know stories of people who changed dramatically after accepting Christ into their hearts. Some of us takes awhile to be the person that God wants us to be. At times, I am disappointed with myself when I do the same bad habits, and say some careless words and wonder whatís wrong with me. But when I pray and ask forgiveness, Godís peace permeates my soul and I know God is renewing my spirit close to His heart. Itís like exercise and dieting. We can not lose weight just by doing the treadmill for 30 minutes a week or eating healthy only after a heart surgery. A daily walk with God , like a lifestyle of healthy living is the only way that God can transform us to be the person He wants you and I to be.
Praise God for He is our God of New Beginnings. Everyday is an opportunity to start anew. But we must do our part. Read the Bible again. Pray for forgiveness, for wisdom, for new life. We will never regret it.
In this day and age of "Makeovers", this is a timely piece of advice. It doesn't matter how we try to make ourselves over on the outside, if our inside hasn't had a complete overhaul, then outward appearances mean nothing. Man looks upon the outside. God looks upon the heart. I wonder which one of us doesn't think of terrible things we have done in the past. But if we have asked God's forgiveness, then when Satan comes along to remind us of those sins, we just have to say, "Get thee behind me, Satan," as Jesus said...Satan likes to point out our sins, but Jesus looks at our hearts and sees His blood...Good reminder, Gloria. Thanks for sharing...Helen

Oh, YES, Gloria... I want a divine makeover! You know God starts this wonderful process when we accept His Son as our Savior and He forgives our sins. But, if we can take the next steps that you wrote about, our makeover will be GLORIOUS! Just like the author of this devotional :-)! I loved what you wrote here: "God allows U-turns. No matter where we are now, He can use our situations or circumstances around for good." So, we need to be encouraged and use what He gave us to complete the makeover He has in mind for each of us. Let's get started... Love, SiS Peggy
