In the six hundredth year
of Noah's life,
in the second month,
on the seventeenth day
of the month,
on that day
all the fountains
of the great deep
burst forth.
[Genesis 7:11]

"LORD?"
[SILENCE.]
"Are You gonna help us
out, with IKE?"
[SILENCE.]
"HUH?"
[SILENCE.]
"What about the DOGS?"
"What dogs,
My beloved."
"I SAW pictures of ABANDONED
DOGS!
In the FLOOD!
At GALVESTON!"
[NOD.]
"Are You gonna HELP them?
Or WHAT?"
"Who AM I,
child?"
"I DUNNO, LORD!
(Frustrated, angry look up at ceiling.)
SOMETIMES.....I'm not really SURE!"
[PATIENT SILENCE.]
"I don't know...LORD!
The Christians tell
me that....Ya know:
You want to SAVE
EVERYBODY!
(Puzzled squint up at ceiling.)
I don't UNDERSTAND?"
[LOVING NOD.]
"Animals die,
My beloved."
"Oh, GREAT!
GREAT!
(Shake puny fist up at ceiling.)
That's NOT what I WANTED
to HEAR......LORD!"
[ALL KNOWING NOD.]
"Why can't You take
CARE of THEM?"
"Trust Me,
child."
(Sad silence.)
"I AM."

They went
into the ark
with Noah,
two and two
of all flesh
in which there
was
the breath
of life.
[Genesis 7:15]
