"Pilate saith unto him, What is truth?"-John 18:38
Do you believe in absolute truth or that there is absolute truth? You should...that is how you got saved (for those of you who are born again believers in Christ!) The fact that Jesus saves is an absolute truth. You had to believe on him to be eternally saved by faith alone, so he either saves or he does not. God's Word clearly teaches this fact, so it is absolute.
People today who are unbelievers do not believe in absolute truth, it goes against their very nature. Everything to them is relative or whatever makes them feel good or happy and gets them through life. Any number of things could get one through life, but it does not mean you will go to heaven when you die. It is important in THIS life what you believe and WHO you believe in that determines the life you live and where you go when you die!
More and more, secular people and even some "Christians" say they or anyone can be sincere, but just being sincere means nothing. You can be sincere, but you will be sincerely wrong if you go through life and fail to receive Jesus as your personal Saviour. Let's look at some examples of absolute truths: (some of these may sound silly, so just work with me okay)
If we are outside and the sky is blue, clear blue and I tell you that it is cloudy and overcast, that would be false, a lie. But if I tell you that the sky is blue and it is, that is the truth. If I see someone wearing a pair of DKNY shoes with DKNY on them and I tell you that, then it is the truth. If I tell you that you need oxygen to survive, even though you cannot see it, it is the truth. If bio-electrical nerve endings get damaged from injury where you could end up as a vegetable in bed for the rest of your life, even though you cannot see the synapses it is still the truth. If I tell you that birds fly and float on air currents, even though you cannot see them, but the birds in flight, it is still the truth. If I tell you that there are white blood cells that fight immunities in your body, even though you cannot see them, without them you could die from the cold, it is still the truth. If I tell you that without a cell called Laminin, a cell adhesion molecule that acts like glue, holding cells together, that you would fall apart, even though you cannot see it with the naked eye, it is still the truth, just look it up in any medical book. By the way, it is also in the shape of the cross, you'll see! You can also see the Laminin cell in diagram form and an image of it under a special microscope on the Passion Talk Series DVD/CD "How Great is our God" by Louie Giglio.
So, those are but a few examples of absolute truths. Where else can we find these truths? Let's look in the Bible. Jesus said God's words are truth:
"Sanctify them through thy truth: thy WORD IS truth." (John 17:17)
Jesus is full of truth, "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) FULL of grace and TRUTH." (John 1:14) Jesus IS the truth, "I am the way, THE truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6) The Holy Ghost (the Comforter, Spirit of truth) is truth and the revealer of it, "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into ALL truth." (John 16:13)
We're going to look at a few subjects now that are biblically proven to exist but some people (even Christians) seem to think they don't. It is pretty much a given that heaven exists and there are some unbelievers (in Christ) that admit they believe there is a heaven, though they would not admit they would want God (of the Bible) to be there. So we will look at heaven's exact opposite...hell! Hell is mentioned over 50 times in the Bible. And Jesus himself talked about it more than anyone!
Atheists and Agnostics and Jehovah's Witness's though deny the reality of hell! The word hell as found in the King James Version is replaced in new versions with 'death', 'grave', 'sheol', 'hades' and 'the depths.' Consider the sentiments of the Jehovah's Witnesses in the appendix of their own faulty Bible, the New World Translation, "Hell applies to the common GRAVE of all mankind...The words contain no thought of or hint of pain." And in another publication we read, "The doctrine of a burning hell...after death cannot be true. A dead person is unconscious, inactive. The soul is dead." (Let God Be True, 1952, pg. 99)
Consider this enlightening exposition of hell from Pastor James L. Melton in an article he contributed to David J. Stewart's web site www.jesus-is-savior.com, called "When a sinner goes to hell." What follows is very revealing:
"If you go to Hell, you'll suffer. That's what Hell is for. Just as the rich man of Luke 16, you'll be TORMENTED IN FLAMES. You say, 'God wouldn't allow such a thing to happen.' Sure he will! God allows people to suffer all the time. God allowed Hitler to murder 6,000,000 Jews, did he not? God allowed Herod to kill the children under two years old, did he not (Matthew 2)? If God will allow innocent babies to be murdered, then why wouldn't he allow a Christ rejecting sinner to burn in Hell? Did God not allow Jesus Christ, an innocent and sinless man, to be beaten and murdered? If God will allow his only begotten Son to suffer and be murdered, then why should God save a sinner from Hell when he chooses not to trust Christ as Savior? Listen, friend, God WILL ALLOW YOU TO GO TO HELL AND BURN IF YOU ARE NOT BORN AGAIN. It happens all the time."
Consider the following quote from British philosopher Bertrand Russell (1872-1970) where he said, "There is one very serious defect to my mind in Christ's moral character, and that is that he believed in hell. I do not myself feel that any person who is really profoundly HUMANE can believe in everlasting punishment."
So is he calling born again believers in Jesus not humane because we DO believe in hell?
The great preacher Jonathan Edwards, who penned the single greatest sermon any human being has, called "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" wrote:
"It is a most unreasonable thing to suppose that there should be no future punishment, to suppose that God...should let man alone...and never punish him for his sins, and never make any difference between the good and the bad."
So I guess a question you have to ask yourself is if you believe the Bible is true in that God says there IS a hell and Satan is a real being. I hope that you believe in God's Word and therefore believe that hell is real, with everlasting fire and torment and that Satan, the devil is very real and eagerly seeks to steal, kill and destroy you!
"And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and SHALL BE TORMENTED DAY AND NIGHT FOR EVER AND EVER." (Revelation 20:10) And also be sure to read Revelation 20:11-15.
Many Christians let alone unbelievers, deny Satan's literal existence. Unbelievers think of Satan as merely an impersonal force or a negative state of being. Consider these sources:
"Satan is not a Person but a Force."-Albert Pike, Morals and Dogma
"The Devil is a metaphysical abstraction."-H. P. Blavatsky, Isis Unveiled, The Secret Doctrine
So, truth isn't relative or just how YOU see something. There are absolutes and God provides them through his Word. Don't let someone tell you there is no such thing as truth or absolute truth. Point them to the Bible. The Bible is intolerant and teaches exclusivity (these are good things). The Gospel is offensive and divisive. But people, including Christians don't like these truths. They have moved (or worse, been lured and even worse, brain-washed) into states of tolerance and acceptance of anything as long as it doesn't ruffle their feathers. Pardon my assertiveness, but I just get passionate about my faith and the Word and how Jesus is treated! Either you receive him as he is, how the Bible reveals him, or you don't! It's as simple as that.
Amen. Thank you for your reinforcement. It has also been my grief, that because of the prevailing notion of political correctness and the pervsiveness of various new new age movements, the world, incuding beleivers, have begun reject the concept of absolute truth. God's word is truth.
Jesus said "I am the Way, THE TRUTH, and the life, NO man comes to the Father except through me"....God's word is truth and we choose to believe or reject it. "THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH AND DWELT AMONG MEN".. JESUS IS THE WORD. Good writing, Chris. GOD BLESS YOU.
